Some sites in the Lake District charge for the pitch then the number of people, then car and pets.

I object to paying extra for dogs, unless dog facilities are provided. Dogs don't use resources!

Dogs can use resources - there is additional waste from their food, their poo and if they drink or are washed then additional water usage. However I would think the main reason is to discourage too many dogs on site at a time.

In the same way as some sites charge a lot for children which discourages large families - perfect I would have thought for those without kids?

I think it is wrong to charge extra for a pup tent or awning if they are charging per person. Either it should be a basic pitch charge + so much per person, or a bsaic charge for the pitch + extra for things extra to the basic unit. They seem to expect to get it all ways. Having their cake and eating it.

I agree. Surely it is up to each individual how much they cram onto the pitch. Witin reason of course!

To be honest in my case with two adults and two kids the "per person" rather than "per pitch" charges tend to equal out to about the same.

Just seems unfair that I pay £20 for my pitch and the bloke next to me who has four kids rather than just my two has to pay £30 although obviously his extra two kids will use a bit more water and so on I guess!

If they are anything like my kids then I doubt if they will. Most kids need quite a bit of persuading to wash at home let alone when away.

if all pitches were a uniformed size then i see no reason to charge more for addtional cars, pup tents etc whatever you can can fit on it fine, you will only cause your own discomfort by cramming your own pitch. however several times i have booked a pitch when only to find when i get there the campers with extra stuff plus the kids and the dog have taken half my pitch (or my pitch!) to accomodate it.

If we all wanted equal sized pitches we would find the beauty of the sites impaired as it would they have to be roped or fenced off, which i feel would ruin the art of camping. i agree that it should be down to the number of people but the other factors involved (kids dogs cars trailers etc) must make the site owners job a nightmare to produce price lists that are fair to everyone and make a profit.  so all i can say is find your favs and stick to them. better the devil you know sometimes.

Tiny compared to a human though. The waste from the food for ours is non-existent as we take their kibble in a carrier bag which then gets used for wrapping dirty boots in, and unless they they do all their poos on site (in which case their owners need to get them out more!) that wouldn't amount to much. In over 20 years of camping with a dog, I've only once had to wash one!

i agree, our lolly dot eats as much of our leftovers as she can, so effectively she cuts down on our waste! as for a bath thats what rivers and the sea is for. Poo could be a problem for site owners who have bad owners on site. but if the dog is trained well it wait till its told to poo, mine is.
