Totally agree with everyone else that it is completely feasible. We really got into camping last year with our baby thanks to some good advice from more experienced campers on here (I was very new to it) and now we are totally hooked and I cant wait for it to get a bit warmer to take our now toddler this season! We go with friends and their baby so its great fun. I totally love it and think you will have a great time!

However, I do totally understand where your husband is coming from. Having a baby can sometimes be daunting and hard work at home with all your comforts around you and taking them camping can add to that, particularly as at that age temperature regulation is important. Our baby did cry all night the first twice, and one time it poured down for 3 days the site was swimming in mud and our baby had just started to crawl- all a bit of a nightmare, yet still we still enjoyed it! It all depends how settled and placid your baby is and given that they have not been born yet I can see why he doesnt want to rush ahead and make plans. Once you are settled in with your new baby you could always have a trial weekends just beforehand so he can build his confidence rather than comitting to a week away already (as it is outside of school holidays can you get away with not booking?). One thing we found with the babies was that we would just watch the weather and see how the little ones were and go on the spur of the moment. I would phone my husband up at work on Friday afternoon and say "we are going camping!" as if we planned in advance they inevitably had a fever or a bad teething episode etc. You know how little ones can be. I probably sound more cautious than most as I am a first time mum, novice camper (of which you are neither) and I work in a childrens hospital so I quite careful (some may say paranoid!!), hence I can see his point of view and how he may be more confident if you take it one step at a time. Having said all that I think you will have a great time! Keep us posted!

We took our baby away in the van last february at 7 weeks old! He was fine, we we're due to take him in then tent in the may (he would have been 5 months old) by then but it got cancelled due to flooding! And as the weather wa so c**p last year we ended up using the van all the time.

All you need to do for night is take a vest, some fleecy all in one PJ's and maybe a little jumper and the gro bag sleeping bags are great as they can't get out of them! If you have EHU leave a small fan heater on over night to.

If a normal travel cot won't fit in the tent you may want to look at one of the samsonite pop up travel cots, they are much smaller than conventional ones.

The only thing I would say is rememeber a flask to heat bottles up in the night without having to boil the kettle!

Hoping to take our now 13 month old away in the tent early may bank holiday lets hope the weather is better

We have taken our 6 year old camping since he was 6 months and he still loves it.  We used a travel cot the first couple of times and then later on found a blow up bed that had a couple of rings around it like a paddling pool and he used that for several years.  He was next to us, so we could keep an eye on him keeping blankets on.  He was bottle fed, but I bought cartons of ready made milk and did cold water sterlising, although did manage at one point to get some disposable bottles.

I have always washed him in the sink at campsites, even when he was 4 as he didnt like showers.  The pushchair doubles as a feeding chair if on solids.  One thing when he was a little older and the weather was warm (that was a few summers ago), he spent hours playing with the washing up bowl and the plastic cups.

I am sure all will be fine and you will all have a great time

We have taken all 3 of our children camping before they were 6 months old. They happily slept in a travel cot (which doubled as a play pen in the day) and we bathed them in a small inflatable dinghy! As we often camped in the wilds (without any facilities) I used a cold water steriliser to keep all of their feeding equipment hygienic.
