I took my brother and his family camping in kent last october, we had a months worth of rain in a single day. They enjoyed it so much the bad weather didn't put them off and they want to camp again.
I am going on a camping trip for the first time in May. I am part of a dog walking group and we have decided to have a week-end away. I have bought a Blacks 2 man pop up tent which is really quite big. It will only be me and my little westie sleeping in it. I am just waiting for my airbed and pump to arrive. I have the mat for underneath the bed, pots and pans and I am borrowing a stove. Really looking forward to it.
My sister and her man..My brother and his wife..Although not directly influenced by my camping...are all now keen caravaners..and we all head off to campsites together on a fairly regular basis..Having all started in tents.....

My sister always makes fun of me. Last year she went to the trouble of posting me some melamine plates with scenes form Carry On Camping printed on them! (she saw them in a shop while on a 'normal' holiday and thought of me!)
She thought it was hilarious<IMG style="CURSOR: hand" onclick="AddSmileyIcon('forum_images/smiley15.gif')" alt= src="https://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/forum_images/smiley15.gif"> but they're so naff they're actually rather cool!...I do use them! <IMG style="CURSOR: hand" onclick="AddSmileyIcon('forum_images/smiley4.gif')" alt= src="https://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/forum_images/smiley4.gif">
They sound AWESOME!!! I'd be well chuffed with those as a present!!! lol!!
Awesome was not quite the word that sprang to mind when I opened them but they did make me laugh....there was no note with them but I new immediately they were from my sister as she's as daft as a brush! She told me you can also get bowls and mugs but she couldn't quite stretch to those!...It was quite a posh shop by all accounts!
We only got into camping last year and totally love it. Off to France this summer and two couples with small children the same age as ours are asking questions and talking about coming. It would be great as we like to camp with friends as you can sit out and chat when the kids are in bed. However, having thought it was a great idea I have decided not to encourage them as I dont want to be responsible for them having a good holiday. They seem to think they can pick up a cheap tent and tally ho. I think this is fine for the odd weekend, or an experienced outdoors person, but we have now bought a lot of kit for going away to France & I dont want them to either spend a fortune or to be disappointed. I have suggested they borrow our kit and go away for a weekend or come with us for a weekend with some borrowed/cheap kit and see if they like it first. They have not mentioned it for a while so I am leaving it for now!
