I had one of those pumps back then. You could even use it for inflating car tyres.

The suction and compresion of the piston going up and down worked a small diaphram, it was this that did the inflating. No petrol went into the item being inflated.

            Yes the advert says "A mechanical car pump that allows only clean air to enter the tubes" so no petrol or fumes as you say, as for me not knowing where my spark plugs are, no wonder, I drive a 1.9 Turbo Diesel car!.

We had a PTC Igloo when I was young, great tent, and Dad blew it up using the spark plug thingy.

Other campers gave us very strange looks when we stood around waiting for it to raise itself, it made a funny noise too, sort of like you hear on a heart monitor.

just to reassure anyone interested in the Peridot Air tent, it blows up in about 5 pumps of the supplied manual air pump - no removing ya spark plugs for this baby

I started one of the threads about these last year when they first appeared on ebay. Got mine £34 inc postage if i recall rightly. Have done a night in the garden in October and it was lovely, very spacious for 2, reasonable head height (more than just sitting up, but obviously not standing) I even inflated it in the dark with no probs. Really looking forward to using it once the weather improves for quick weekend getaways

Lol I may have mislead you with saying decent head height, dimensions i have just checked are 150cms high so you would have to be pretty small, as in your average 10 year old size to stand up.

My biggest problem was the lower outer door height of the porch. Having got used to luxuriating in standing height family tents, my 6am trip to the loo resulted in a nice dose of cold dewy water down the back of my pyjamas when I knocked the top of that door!!! Am getting a small groundsheet for the porch area so i can at least kneel down before opening that door as i am not repeating that experience again if i can help it

Mantrachant, I have just been reading the thread about picnic rugs as tent carpet and thinking - as the porch is covered aside from when you open flap something along the suggestions made there - beach mat, plastic backed rugs etc would be just as Ok and probebly alot cheaper than a groundsheet - its just really to stop muddy knees!

If it is raining you would want something that can withstand any water or that you dont mind chucking at the end of the trip - was thinking poundland often do those roll up straw beech mats that i could tuck in car and put down of an evening,roll up during day. mmmmm thinking cap on.......

Just back from an afternoons tenting on the beach.

The wind was very strong as forecast, so I took the inflatable tent instead of the quick pitch. I only used the inner, so no guy ropes to stop it flapping around, just the four corner rings pegged down with Delta's. I can confirm almost no movement at all, other than the actual material. So they should be very good with the fly fitted and guyed out.
