For us it depends on how early/late it is - don't really want to be pitching in the dark! We'll usually take a look at the weather and see if a break is likely but usually we just get on with it - tho we've never had to pitch in a full on downpour yet! One thing we did find with the Diablo tho when pitching when wet is that the flysheet gets a bit heavy and it doesn't "float" over the top as easily as usual. We also try to wear as little as possible - tshirt and shorts - you're going to get wet, no point getting all your clothes we too and skin dries off much quicker then clothes *lol*

Quick update - Tent still hasn't arrived, and the weather forecast is looking dire indeed! May see if the campsite can take us Sunday and Monday instead - will be less fraught as we will be able to put the tent up in the daytime, and the weather is significantly less wet and windy - of course the ground will probably still be very wet!! Will have to wait and see what the campsite says...

Just make sure you have a portable heater so if it is a little damp when you pitch you can dry the tent out quickly, also you don't want any moans about being cold at any point during the trip, so also plenty of blankets under foot as well on the groundsheet.

It finally arrived today! Don't know whether to laugh or cry!! At least it's here now and we can finally make more concrete plans to go away at the weekend and try it out...

Does anyone know of the 2008 model Diablo 600 should have 'flat head pegs' to peg down a strap in the porch area - the pitching instructions say it should, but none in among all the pegs supplied...

Are you stre? The flat topped pegs Vango usually supply are wire pegs with the top end bent over into an open circle, if you see what I mean. They're not solid and they're easily lost in the main peg pile.

I don't recall seeing any....we had two types supplied: the 6 big solid ones to be used for the corners and the rest were the usual wire ones. Some wire ones may have been flatter on the top than others but I don't recall noticing. It doesn't really matter tho for the straps you're talking about - just make sure you hammer the peg in fully so that the strap is flat to the floor and you'll be fine

Mike 70 re pitching inner first in rain...unless its absolutely bucketing it down...torrential rain... pitching inner first in light rain or a shower is ok.  It soon dries out.  well thats what we;ve found anyway.  its the taking it down thats trickier because in an ideal world you want to pack the tent away dry, especially the inner,,,but then that goes for any make of tent.

Thanks for the peg replies - I've phoned the dealer and they will send me some - if they turn out to be like ones we already have, then my bad, but hey we will have spare pegs which is no bad thing, and some compensation for them sending the tent too late for the Easter weekend!!

i am very lucky that my hubby plays a big part in any tenting decisions, i do the research then point a few tents out then we go and look at them together. our idea of a fantastic day out is going to Winfields lol.

Its not far from you. Haslingden. My fav shop.

Martin.

I could have written that  but not the Winfields bit as I have no idea where they are but substitute any other camping shop we go to
