Why do they always have these offers on during school time? Its not surprising parents are choosing to take children out of school, we have just taken our children out of school for two days but that was because my daughter is in court tomorrow as she is the victim in an assault case and we thought the break would be good for her otherwise I object to disrupting their education. sometimes wish they were pre-school again to take up these offers, lol.

It's a pain and yes does encourage term time holidays. But they are only thinking of their business not the kids education.

Hope the court case goes Ok.

Hi. The tent is a very tiny 2 berth one. You know - it's just got two crossing poles. Sort of thing you'd get in a supermarket at a ridiculous price. far less than the £14.25 you actually have to pay. They don't mention all the other thin gs you need. I can see this putting soooo many people off camping for life.

Cheers

Pete

Shirley, I'd speak to your daughters school. We were involved in a very similar situation - to the extreme of it making us homeless and my 3 kids traumatised.   The school guidance teacher was fantastic and told us if we needed to take the kids away for a break -even during school time, they'd understand and get some homework handed out so's they could use some of the time for study. Might be worth a try to give your daughter a bit of healing time. Hope the court case goes ok.

We've got the paper today and when I saw the tent I laughed...for a similar tent for the kids to play in, whilst camping whilst wet, last year cost us £4.99 from Asda.  It'll probably be cheaper this year too!

As for the holiday offer it's good but, as you guys have already pointed out, doesn't help us families really and besides my monster of a tent would be turned away!  Think I'll stick my usual haunt Shell Island, North Wales as I know the tent is accepted there and to be honest I love it there!

Do you have a problem with the tent Laura? We have only been to two sites but neither have said anything. We are going away for 3 weeks this year, using 5 sites. I hope we don't have any problems.

Thanks Dezzie for that advice will see how she is after the court case and maybe see what the school can advise.
We just got the paper as well and thought that its not that good an offer for the tent. We got a 2 man tent from halfords for my daughter which she loves for £12

Got the paper and looked at the tent - probably better off just using the newspaper itself for ground cover or starting the bbq. What did make me laugh was the article in the attached supplement. Items for camping -  total £3,938 without the cost of a tent! Some of the items: 1 sleeping bag £200, Performance watch £200, Panasonic toughbook £1,800 - like I need one of those, Boots £185 (have they not heard of wellies), Portable Digitial TV £150 etc.  With all that gear, you'd never leave the tent - it would all be nicked by the time you returned from the loo - and no the £3,938 doesn't include loo roll.

It might be worth pointing out that in addition to the £14.25 (tent plus postage) cost they also require you to buy 3 more Mail on Sunday's, making the total cost £20.25

For that I got a Gelert Eiger 2 which is a damn site better tent than the one they're offering.

Hey Spud, To be honest we've only been to Shell Island with this tent (minimum 20 metres between each tent - therefore massive space per pitch and doesn't matter how much stuff you wanna put up) but we did have problems with our old tent Gelert Michigan 10 (I know another Michigan - which was smaller that this one) due to the size of the tent.  The sites, like the ones on offer in the Mail, have minute size pitches.

Out of interest, how do you put the tent up? We had real trouble on our last trip. We ended up putting the middle poles up first and then working to ends as it was too heavy otherwise.
