Having become new to camping last year, (with the exception of a brief stint 20 years ago) what I have found most heartwarming is how friendly campers are and that there is a genuine concern for other campers.

Something as simple as always saying hello when passing on the way to the shower/loo block, or chatting to your neighbours, the kids always making friends wherever we go and feeling safe that someone will look out for your kit when you are out for the day.  The kids being kids, they end up leaving their bikes out all night and up to now have never been touched, but I realise that I shouldn't take that for granted.

It makes you want to extend that friendliness in return and we would always look out for others set ups

  Best wishes Sam

how about using this?
simply screw into ground and then chain/wire all valuables to it, any thief will have to pick the lot up and twist it all around to get the spike out of the ground!!!

portable ground anchor

I have seen a similar one with a lockable cover but can't find the web page again, perhaps someone else will.

Simply screw a ground anchor into the ground outside your tent and lead a rope from it into the tent.
Not many people would check whether there was actually a dog on the end of it.

Most campers look out for each other and like people have said there is more of a risk to your tent if you put padlocks on your tents. Just make sure your valuables are safe and remember your on holiday for a break not to stress about padlocks
