We pitched the tent at easter in torrential rain! It was only light drizzle when we started but as soon as we had the whole thing laid out it started bucketing. Once we had threaded the poles through the fabric our fingers were freezing, numb and slippery. We were literally half a trainer deep in water and mud when we had all the poles in the sleeves. The added weight of the water made the tent so heavy and it was really hard to pop the dome - something which you wouldn't have to worry about. We had waterproofs on but even though we did we were both soaked through and had to completely strip off when we got the tent up enough to enter as our clothes were literally DRIPPING wet. If it was raining when we arrived on site again I would seek more detailed weather forcast like off metcheck which I can get on my mobile and then make a decision based on that and gut feeling. If it is hammering I would give it a miss, even if it meant a b and b. Spitting yes fine, raining - well ok then; heavy rain NO NO NO never again. Plus all our waterproof clothes were then out of action until they dried properly, 3 days later! Having said that your tent is MUCH easier to pitch than ours. Good luck with whatever you decide to do... make your decision and go for it.
We wear light clothes and cagoules, crocs, wellies to pitch in, and get all the stuff dumped in the tent. In the car quick to hand I have a bag with towels, toiletries, and clean dry clothes in. So DH an I will each take a quick turn down the showers to get warmed up and dried off.
Once that is done then we can get all our stuff chucked round the tent, beds made up, but I find that a more pleasant and less stressful experience if I'm not still cold and soggy from pitching!
as long as its not realy cold we pitch in shorts and tee shirt as there qucik to dry off instead of having leads of wet clothe about trying to get them all dryed out we have a 6 man fram tent and have pitched it in some horred weather no problem infat every time we have pitched it on a thrsay or friday in the rain from then on the weathers been lovley

Thanks everyone for your lovely messages it looks like there is no arguement my husband can win on putting up tent in rain. Everytime he moans i will remind him of what all you lovely people have wrote. thanks Caroline. x
I think there's nothing wrong with it...besides, it makes getting inside away from the rain and then getting warm, that little bit more cosier! No better sound I think, than rain on canvas too!
I was researching the same question this time last year. So far we've only pitched in wind when the tent became a box kite! After reading many posts about how friendly campers were as a community we were sort of hoping that other campers might offer to give us a hand as it was so windy - what they actually did was pull out their folding chairs, open a beer and watch us fight with the tent whilst chuckling into their beers!!!!! Weve broken camp in the total downpour which was pants. Somebody on here has recommended wearing cut off trousers and crocs with a waterproof - your legs dry quite quickly and you don't want to be stuck with a pair of heavy, cold dripping wet jeans! I intend to wear my walking trousers - they dry so quickly and don't hold tons of water.
of course, once you have finished pitching in the rain, you can get inside, strip off all the wet gear, and snuggle in to try out the tent boudoir!!!! yumm!
