Thanks for that Angie - good to know that sone tents are still made locally.

Otherwise I'd have to go with Bernie and say the chinese manufacturere that makes them all.

Could be true, but I think the Vietnamese are giving the Chinese a run for their money when it comes to stitching up a tent ... or should that be stitching up a tent buyer?

Id say Cabanon just for its durability - I love the way people are still camping in their 30 year old tents & the attention to detail that goes into every tent.  But also although mass produced you do have to hand it to Outwell who turn out best selling innovative tents year on year - they seem to understand what their target market wants from a tent.

De Waard for me. De Wit, Randstad and Karsten will have to come second, the detailed finishing is just not as good as De Waard, imo.

To add on Angie's info:De Waards used to be made in Holland up until a couple of years ago. Now they are made in the Czech Republic, but are still finished in detail in Holland.

Polyester = Outwell

Canvas = Cabanon.

Can't comment about the dutch tents as I have never seen one to examine.

I've now gone away and thought about it ,and I've concluded that the best tent manufacturer is Outwell. This is because of their extensive range of polyester and polycotton tents  ,something to suit all but the most specialist requirement , and a similar range of prices.Praise for the provision of pitching videos also . The weakest area is really the lack of innovative  designs , and there have been issues raised about some build quality, particularly concerning the polycottons , overall I think they are the best all round tent manufacturer.

we have had 2 outwells and never been let down by them we also have a vango but only camped once in it and it was fab but dont know against wind rain etc, got a gelert tornado yet to come out of the polythene let alone see grass ...............  i think there much the same and it is personal preference and brand loyality. we bought a vango orchy as we couldnt find an outwell product to match it after trawling for hours on here

i wouldn't like to say which is the best or give  a reason ...... i will sit on the fence for this one i think lol

love cabanons though but as i have repeated in other posts ....... hubby says NO!!!!

Khyam for me, we've had our XXL for seven years, it's been to the moon and back and apart from one broken rapidex joint (my own stupid ham-fisted fault) and a few holes nibbled by mice (expertly fettled with the patches we got with the tent) it's never let us down. It goes up in a heartbeat, no messing about threading poles in sleeves and then trying to pursuade them onto rings. We can have ours up and providing shelter in 10 minutes and, including all guys and the annexe up as well is probably 30-40 minutes. Top piece of kit, I'd recommend Khyam Ridgidomes to anyone.
