I love storms!...strolling along a calm, sun-kissed beach is very pleasant but you've can't beat a bit of stormy weather, especially at the coast...and let's face it, we've got more chance of the latter in this beautiful country so we may as well enjoy it. [;)]

Best moment for me last year was standing by my tent, next to a rocky shore, watching a heavy sea at high tide in a howling gale.....absolutely brilliant...thrilling...exciting....makes you know you're alive![:D] ....I think I may have gone a little overboard but I actually found it quite moving at the time.

I'm a tough old bird but I have to admit I hate being out in the open in lightening...it really makes me jump and I'm just as jumpy in the tent....especially my ridge with the A frame spike that emerges from the canvas like a church spire! [:(]

Would still be nice to have a few calm, sunny says this summer though.........

We`re off tomorrow too, weather looking warm and dry,(fingers crossed),it`s not the rain, there`s something quite comforting sitting in your tent hearing the pitter patter, it`s the wind that i don`t like, and that`s on the outside17

Just make sure you have the kids waterproofs and preferable walking boots/snow boots as wellies will only keep them dry for soo long but their feet will freeze and that won't be much fun then!! We have walking boots/socks and snow boots for the kids now!

You'll love it regardless of the weather, just being away from everything and being outdoors is fab, we have never been away without some form of rain!!

Ohh, a really good thunderstorm in a well guyed down tent is a great experience. I've spent many late nights out under the canopy watching storms. My boring family usually go to bed though!
I'd agree with that. In Snowdonia last summer we had the most incredible storm. We were up watching it wondering whether the tent would survive the night. The thunder seemed to bounce around the mountains and when you thought it was easing off it would return. The lightening was spectacular.

Good game for a rainy evening is to get some paper & pens & have a go at 'drawing objects from a funny angle'.

Note to self..... less wine

Given the choice we would rather be camping.

We allways have a plastic backed picnic blanket just in side the tent,It helps to stop mud getting everywhere. Then when you get home put it in the washer you can normaly get them for less than a fiver.17

We were in Dorset last Thursday during the mother of all storms - it started at midnight and didn't stop raining until Friday lunchtime!!

During the night, the lightning was so bright, I still saw it with my eyes shut !! ...and the thunder at one point was so loud, I could 'feel' it !!

The kids slept right through it!! My wife got about 3 hours sleep and I did a bit better - not a great start to our trip

However, after that, we had wall-to-wall sunshine and really humid heat - in fact, too hot some of the time...

You just can't trust weather reports more than 2 days before the time - on the tuesday, they were predicting rain at the weekend...
