Thanks everyone, I feel a bit of a numpty, I didn't even realise they were called stuff sacks.

I have had a go and it was lightyears quicker although the bags are still on the small side I reckon. Very much appreciated anyway for turning a chore into a "summat to do".

Just hope I don't have dreams about Turkeys running round with hiking socks hanging out of their bums

As most said, just stuff it.

As for keeping them in the stuff sack....well, some bags come with 2 storage sacks - a larger one for long term storage, and a smaller one for squashing it down more for travel. Other bags come with a compression stuff sack, that has straps to cinch down nice and tight to make the package smaller. Provided the sleeping bag is stored in either the larger stuff sack, or the compression stuff sack with the straps NOT cinched down, then long term storage it no problem. Don't worry about all that poncing around looking for space to have your bag all fluffed up - so long as you store it without it being compressed HARD down then it will not lose loft.

My old bag I had for 19 years, always stored in a stuff sack, and it was as good when I passed it on to someone else as it was the day I bought it. Main thing is to always store it clean and completely dry.

 Thaat's why its a stuff sack. My daughter is Very Good at this. She had a Saturday job at an outdoor shop and when people were buying sleeping bags she was always called upon, (being slightly built,) to show how easy it was to put them in the bags. Start with a bottom corner and just keep feeding a bit in at a time then draw the top string. The staff used to laugh after a sale knowing full well how easy she had made it look.

practise makes perfect. Why don't you have a competition between the family and get them trying against each other. Also the one who sleeps in it puts it away.

Good sleeping bags should be stored unsquashed. i keep our in the underbed drawers.
