We have a front porch in the Norfolk Lake and the luggable loo goes in there on a picnic blanket with loo roll, wet wipes and hand sanitiser all ready at night for wees.... and once emptied in the morning, the picnic blanket covers it up for the day.

We use facilities on site during the day, If we need to use the loo during the day we have this little beauty to stick it in behind the tent...We ask the fisherman to leave first though!! (my £2 bargain from a car boot sale! )

I would keep it in the main tent

By the time I had opened all the zips up to go outside I would be wide awake and might as well go to the loo block

Tina, do you have a toddler's potty with lid hanging around the house anywhere?  Otherwise they are easy to pick up from Mothercare etc.. We just take one of those for night-time weeing.  Not the capacity of a camping loo, but enough to get you out of a tight spot!  I'm usually the only person who uses it (also after 5 kids LOL!).  Once it's been used I just stick it outside the tent door and empty it in the morning.  Or lift up the tent wall and discreetly tip the wee out on the grass and bring potty back inside.  Note we are talking wee only here, which soaks into the soil with no smell. Obviously poo has to be dealt with properly!  OTOH.. a friend has a 'compost toilet' on her allotment which is actually just a large bucket filled with soil, and a trowel next to it, with instructions to visitors to bury their solid waste.  She tips the lot on her compost heap every now and then.  Amazingly, it wasn't smelly despite being well-used by plenty of kids when we went round there :-/  So if you find yourself in a situation where the campsite doesn't have loos or they're out of action, maybe a few shovelfuls of soil in a bucket would tide you over.

Are you quite sure about that? Not sure I'd fancy pitching my tent on top of what had been someone else's urinal for the previous week.

Must agree, thats revolting.  I wouldn't be happy pitching my tent where someone had been tipping wee for a week or more.

Please put list of sites you've been to, so i dont put them on a list for us to visit

LOL - no, not proposing this as a regular policy, but as an emergency measure if the in-tent pot is full, someone else needs it, and the weather is too bad to go out!  But don't worry, I do understand why some may be grossed out by this sort of 'green camping', and we are getting a Kampa Khazi for the next trip

Just out of interest though - urine is generally sterile (eg see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urine)  and, when in soil, is quickly broken down with no smell.  It has no food value to vermin so I've not found any scientific rationale for it attracting them.   Actually some believe that it repels foxes, deer and other garden pests - in the rural area where I grew up it was fairly common to hear of men 'marking their territory' for this reason, though I've not seen any data on whether it actually works.  Many gardeners and farmers pee on their veg patches as the nitrogen is good for the plants; here's an article about Finnish research which found that adding urine directly to plants was very effective. More on it here from Science Daily:

"Despite the 'yuk!' factor, urine from healthy individuals is virtually sterile, free of bacteria or viruses. Naturally rich in nitrogen and other nutrients, urine has been used as fertilizer since ancient times. "

Anyone into composting will be familiar with the advice to pee on the compost heap to accelerate compost production as it feeds the 'good' bacteria (eg see this Guardian article , or this Grapevine Gardening discussion). 

But bringing this back to camping... the US Army has developed a dried food range designed to be rehydrated with urine if water is not available.  Yum....
