I've spoken to the campsite we're going to and I asked about a utility tent and guess what? We'd be charged for it AND it must be 3m away from our tent (fire regulations). I don't understand as people have them right next to their tent normally.
I certainly don't! Kinda defeats the purpose of having a utility tent, if it takes your living tent up with it when it catches on fire... The point (for me) of having a utility tent is that I can have the cooking area well away from the main tent so that if I accidentally set it alight then the fire will be contained to just my cooking area, and it can't spread...
Bummer that the site you're off to charges for them though - I've not been charged yet for a utility tent. Perhaps they're not quite sure what one is, and they think you mean a day tent/gazebo?
------------- 2011 plans:
April - Exmoor 11 nights
May - Brynawelon, Wales 3 nights
July - Rendlesham Forest 4 nights
Then I am off back home to Australia, where the weather is always perfect for camping :)
