Yes. I'd help.
I have had the same done for me.   I had been out for the day with the kids, and my neighbour had banged my pegs back in my tent - and added a few extra to my kitchen tent.
It had become very windy during the day.   Yet 20 miles down the road, it was bright, and wind not strong.

I've never needed to rescue a neighbours tent, but I would if the occasion arose. I did remove a load of washing from a neighbours guy ropes when the heavens opened. I pegged them to a line I use under our front canopy. I dried myself off, then suddenly thought that they may not notice it under our canopy & think that someone had stolen it, so I wrote a note & went out in the pouring rain again to slip the note under their tent door.

They arrived back about 10 minutes later, but half an hour later they still hadn't come to fetch their washing, so daft as you like, I folded it, put it in a dustbin bag & took it over to them (getting soaked again). They said they'd seen the note, but were waiting for the rain to stop before they fetched it. Doh 17

Bless you Jean, you sound like a really nice person.

I would certainly help others in these circumstances, and would be extremely grateful for someone doing the same for me.

In the Great Loire Storm of 2003(?) the tiny tent on the next pitch was flattened. I and another couple of neighbours went out and rescued the tent and kit before it got scattered to the four corners of the campsite. This was at 2am (I was out checking the guylines) so where were the owners? They had decamped to the shower block for safety and were peacefully sleeping through the entire thing, one assumes.

Was quite amusing though when they came back to the pitch the next morning and found...nothing there. Don't know what they expected! We owned up after a couple of minutes though, lol.

Last year near Warwick the weather was awful, we came back from a day out to find a trailer tent and a folding camper with bits flapping about.  The trailer tent was in a state, so we took the awning down, and rolled it up etc.  Contacted the owner of the site ........ who in turn eventually contacted the owners.  They had gone home as the weather was so awful!!!   About 3/4 hour later they turned up, took them down and went back home.  Didn't even say thanks.  We couldn't really believe that anyone would go home and leave them up on site when the weather was so bad. There was easily a couple of thousand pounds worth of stuff there, and had we not helped out, i am sure most of it would have been severely damaged.

How rude! I really dislike bad manners and they should have been very grateful to you for your thoughtful actions.

I have helped out in situations as others have described - repegging flapping tents and fetching washing in etc. Someone very kindly tucked a book I had left outside back in under the porch door when we were by Lough Neagh last year. For me this is part of camping "culture".

I certainly would help anyone in distress provided they wanted the help . However, in conjuction with several other threads on here, would you help them if they were going to be the neighbours from hell? Bring back time travel !!

It does give you some moral leverage-"I helped you in your hour of need, and this is how you repay me?(actually it was a case of Stella!)".My worry is helping in situations that are already out of hand and something gets damaged and you fear the blame as you are the experienced pro . This has happened once, but no blame was attached , but you could see the potential complications . The thought also goes through my head, " Well apart from the occaisional lending of a mallet, noone ever helped me when I provided the camp entertainment ( still do ! ) , and that's how I learned !"The danger is always being percieved as meddling .
