We get the kids to roll along the folded tent to get the air out - they have lots of fun though sometimes it takes longer than it should because "just one more go" becomes 4 or 5 more goes

Must agree with everyone who says compress as you roll it up

We also fold into thirds (sort of) which is fairly straight forwad even with the odd shape of the Diablo. We also line the bag up at the end of the inner and flysheet so that we know we have the correct size and it goes in the bag with the last roll.

Patience is the key and dont be afraid to re-do it if you get it wrong on the first attempt.

We only go camping to see what we have forgotten and what we need to get for next time. If only we could remember where we put the list..................

Ah!! The eternal "Get the tent back in the bag" test...I reckon we should have a National UKCS tent bagging compitition...With a weeks camping holiday as the prize...That would focus our minds on the job in hand....17

Yep...Ive had my probs in the past...The 2-3 goes...folding/unfolding the tent..The times when you have made sure your rolling it up as tight as possible..Making sure all the air is out etc...and it still wont go!!! What Ive found is..If you fold it into a rectangular shape  (with all guys/flaps etc tucked in) about the same size as the length of the poles...Then using every ounce of strength you posess..Every peice of your body...Hands..Knees..Elbows...Chest..Etc.. etc...You sould just about manage it....17

Im convinced that these mass produced tents are rolled and packed by machines or robots at the packing stage...Cos you never quite get it exactly the same as it looks when it 1st comes out of the bag..Either that...or they employ 8ft giants with hands like shovels to do the packing for them???

Do know in the fishing comunity...that a lot of lads use the kit bag tip..from the army and navy stores..for their bivvies...as the bag material for these bivvies is just not up to the job of repacking..What with all the tugging of the zips..The bashing and pushing etc etc..and a lot of bivvies have intergrated poles(fixed fold away ones) that make a right mess of these lightweight bags their supplied in...

Jelboy.

I want advice about roughly this topic.  We have just bought a lovely new Coleman tent and I unpacked it in our living room but it is far bigger then the available space for packing it up.  I've managed (I left the pegs and poles separate) but my question is about drying the tent.

How important is it to ensure that a modern tent is totally dry?  Does the odd bit of moisture do any harm?  I know that the old cotton materials would rot but so these modern synthetic fabrics cope with being packed up wet?  If we have to dry it like we did with out old and small tent it will be difficult to say the least.

This question has come up several times before. I must have been very lucky with my tents, over twenty. Every one is back in its original bag with no problems. One little trick that I discovered is when a tent is rolled up to get it back in the bag, I start the roll round some of the poles. This appears to make a tighter pack when it's all done. I then pull out the poles, and pack them in their own bag.

What a simply brilliant idea 17

John 4703

Don't know what tent you have but I've just had my venture 600 and outwell oklahoma and windbrakes drying on the washing line!!

If it's too wet then they go over the banister of the landing. I've dired our Diablo600 like this more than once.

I always make sure it's dry as I can't stand the smell of mildew.
