Thanks for all these comments everyone. After reading all posts from the dedicated followers of camping, methinks collecting tents could very soon become a habit! There must be a name for it....or is it a condition! Either way I'm happy with it. Wish I was camping now

There are several known forms of the disorder, though not all experts agree (of course!) on some types as being a recognised clinical condition.
However OCTD (Obsessive Compulsive Tent Disorder) is accepted ananimously as one, & also as being the most widespread form of tent disorders.
The 2nd most common recognised one is I believe commonly referred to as "Tentitis"- a colloquial name for a condition more properly termed Manic-Depressive Tent Disease. This one can vary in nature & effect, with some sufferers only ever experiencing either mania OR depression, some suffer both, others mainly manic episodes but with very occasional depressive bouts & so forth.

So.. how can you tell whether a tent has been UV damaged?
The flysheet will start feeling stiff and less flexible, with a sort of crunchy texture. Sometimes it will develop milky patches on the inside, usually on the roof. Then the flysheet will start to split and tear. .

Oh well, then we aren't there yet. We can tell it has faded (because when you lift the rear ventilation flap the flysheet underneath is darker, but it all still feels 'normal' as far I can tell and no milky patches. Maybe we have another year...?
Only thing broken is a pole where the elastic has snapped, but as its steel you don't seem to be able to drop a cord through it. That being said it still fits onto the pole and stood up fine for the last 3 weeks so I think the elastics may just be for convenience. Can't see what they add to the strength.
Look at it a different way. Six months, at a B&B for two people = 182 days our local B&B's start at £50 per night for two people, so that's £9100 less pitching fee circa £15 a night £2730 plus breakfast ? A saving of £6370 less breakfast. That's why I go camping, well it's one of the reasons I can afford to go camping as much. Any way it's good to have a change of tent init. Having said that, I have now gone all cotton/canvas so my tents will well outlast me as I now have six cotton canvas tents to use, so that's a minimum of sixty years camping, and even I'm not that keen.
So if you knock off £1370 for breakfast,s that will leave you £5000 to spend on tents and equipment. Ain't life great
I have decided to print this off and keep in my purse next to my Go Outdoors card so IF ever my hubby questions my wisdom about yet another camping purchase I can whip it out (oo-er!) and justify my spending. THANK YOU SO MUCH x
------------- If you have a problem stressing you, sort it. If you can't, there's no point worrying about it coz it won't make a blind bit of difference!!!! Jules
My Vango Equinox is 10-12 years old and still looks like new and it gets used every year.
The footprint that i have had for the same anmount of time has just started to turn porous however so i'll have to hunt around for a new one or find a tarp.
