Yes but surely the whole purpose of erecting tents at displays is so you can road test them.  You don't know if a family tent will suit your family unless you test it out to some extent, kids included! Ex display tents should be written off or sold at a very substantial discount to people who know there probably isn't much life left in them

Have to disagree with you on that,you might find it acceptable to let your kids trample all over the inners with muddy feet,but I certainly don't.You don't do this in trailer tents,so why would tents be any different.I agree that you have to go inside tents to get the feel of the size etc,but not the inners,you have a brochure with the sizes on.

We always go inside the bedrooms, regardless of whether we know the dimensions or not. Can't say myself or the kids have ever had muddy feet though.

There's always someone tripping over the groundsheet at the door or the guy ropes. The stress these tents are under must be 10 lifetimes over, never mind the IV degradation. Mud on the floor is the least of your worries. Not for me!

I don't "let my kids trample all over the inners".  We go in, we come out, we go in again, we come out again, sometimes we even have a little lie down, anything that will give us a better idea of how it will suit us. Would you buy a house without going in the bedrooms?  We don't purposely dirty the floor but sometimes muddy feet are a side effect of being in a field.  Display tents take a battering, it's nobody's fault, they just do.

If they would let you in the cabins of tt's and fc's I would.

I presume you mean 'isn't much life in them' applies to the tent, and not the buyer

I think the retailers sometimes get it wrong,  Im not blaming them for trying to make a proffit, and I dont want to see the end of outdoor displays,  but I see it this way,  if you errect tents for an outdoor display, then the value of these must be written down or written off depending on how you present your display,  if you invest in your display, have say that outdoor carpeting that some retailers use,  and perhaps place carpet or other floor coverings inside the tents - then the product keeps much of its condition ( a little fading perhaps )  and therfore when its time to sell off - then a fair value is retained

If however, you just have them sitting on gravel,  stonechippings,  bark chips or grass, and dont protect floor areas,  dont keep them in tip top condition - then how can you dare to ask for a return, in some cases even a profit on the sale.

You hear lots of stories of folk who get so-called bargains on Ex Dis tents - but as I said earlier in this topic - I have seen a very respected retailer asking 599 for a very tired looking Outwell Bearlake, ( shop price 799 ) complete with rips on the inner tent and stone chiping damage to the ZIG - faded flysheet, guys ect ..  to then just a few weeks later be clearing brand new stock out -  at a hundred quid less !

At the end of the day,  its your choice,  take a really good look at the tent - and then if your happy that the price asked looks fair - then offer half of that,  and you may just get that bargain.

You get what you pay for and don't pay for what you'r not getting.

We bought an ex-display Vango and I walked around it for a good hour looking at everything - paid much less than half price and it's still going strong 6 years on.

If you know what you're buying and it looks and feels OK - go for it!
