Camped in ice (not snow) a few times in the sixties in my old canvas ridge tent.  No problems, but I re-proofed it loads to keep the water out.  I'd say if you've got a decent tent, it should stand up to a bit of a freeze.

I am fairly sure that it would have been canvas tents that Shackelton and Scott used when the were heading for the Poles.

If it was good enough back then, it should be good enough for anything we get frost wise

& what about a cuppa on a freezing morning then? the car will be colder inside than the tent. If you are going winter camping butane is a waste of time, sooner or later it won't work. So why bother? if you are winter camping take propane gas.

We went in our trailer tent in Febuary one year and it was great, nice sunny days but freezing at night and the water bucket froze, we stayed on the C&CC site in Keswick so could walk into the town in 5 min, just make sure you have a heater and good lighting and there was no problem with the tent.

Also another good site open all year is sykeside at Brotherswater with plenty off walking from the site, and a pub on site doing really good food, see link below.
