I used an industrial strength tarp 3m x 4m in semi opaque white colour that provided some shade, and put it up using 2 sets of 2.1m king poles and 1 set of 1.8m king poles, over the front of my Freelander tent.

I pegged the poles down using Delta pegs, and was very secure in Sep 09.

I think I am going to try the best of both worlds.

I will buy the Coleman canopy from Argos (which is cheap enough), and a bog standard cheapo tarp.

When we finally get out ‘n’ about camping I’ll do some experimentation with the tarp – it will always come in handy anyway as we’re going to buy a “weekender” tent soon, and it will need a footprint.
