Just got back from our 3rd trip this year. Yes it's cold (especially on sites with no EHU) but that's half the fun and you pretty much get the campsites to yourselves when the weather isn't ideal. When we turned up this weekend the owner was gobsmacked saying "It's raining and freezing, I assumed you weren't coming!'. We had a great time.
Hi grapefruitmoon, i notice that your location is in the trossachs. We are booked for cobleland forestry commission site in early June. Have you been and would you recommend, any info would be much appreciated.

Hi. We live nearby there. It used to be a privately owned site but now Forestry. All Forestry sites are very expensive IMO! Anyway, it's very nice. You can cycle along the old railway track into Aberfoyle. There are many cycle tracks. There's a path from the site along the river that takes you to a river beach, where we swim if it's hot. Midgies in summer. The David Marshall centre on the hill (Dukes path) has nice woodland walks (midgies! - sorry) and a waterfall. The cafe is good value and nice view. Lots of great hill walking. Everything is nearby - Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stirling . . .Lake of Menteith (only 'lake' in Scotland) has boat hire and you can take a trip to the island in the middle.
Have fun!
We went to Filey, North Yorkshire Friday to Monday and it was freezing!! Our first trip out this year and think we forgot how cold it drops at night. Kids were fine but as some of the posts said it was the wind that made it worse especially at night.
Thankfully our Outwell survived unlike 12 other tents on the site. All got our fingers crossed now it warms up for the next bank holiday weekend.
------------- MAY - Blue Dolphin, Filey
