PBS... We have a similar tent to you with the Gelert Porch. It's great except when it rains we have found that the water gathers on top of the tent and then every now and then we get a gush of it coming down byt the window where the porch edge comes across it. Did you have this problem?

We are thinking of moving the porch across next time so the window is in the porch area as otherwise one corner is out of use when it rains.

If you see a family struggling to put up the tent then it must be us!

Yes we did ! We had the porch central but it was half over the window ( window was on the left if looking from outside)the gush of water came down on the opposite side (right side of the porch) and made my daughter jump a few times. The cover over the tent didn't go far enough over the tent and also acted as a bit of a wind trap, hence had to use the storm pegs.

Ah, we we were getting it come down across the window. Must depend on ho it is pitched.
Yes it does seem to trap wind as it were, not had to resort to storm pegs yet though, but one peg did come out on a particularly windy day.

We tried with the flat toaster and in all honesty they get very hot and can only do one at a time and guzzles the gas canister.

More sucessful methods.... clean chip pan basket over the gas stove... or as I discovered this morning.... the BBQ!.... had  a fantastic cheese toasy for breakfast this morning!

I can't see how else you could make toast without it getting hot, and as each slice only takes about 10 seconds , it hardly guzzles the gas .

Surely you'd use more gas doing it with your chip basket , as that doesnt have the metal gauze that makes the toaster work so fast you'll be burning gas for longer?

Cheese toasties?     I mentioned this type of sandwich toaster (square pie iron) on another thread recently - just put the cheese/tomato/beans etc. betweeh two outside-buttered slices of bread, close the toaster and give it two or three minutes each side over almost any kind of stove - or barbecue of course!

toast has an art to it, but you will work out your own way.

we ave an american favourite grilled cheese (butter bread on oneside of each of two slices put cheese on dry side of bread then place butter side onto dry fry pan until brown then turn and do the same on the other side until cheese has melted)

also make panini's in the same way keep pressing the filled bread down with spatula or whatever you have to hand.

I use a mini oven from argos. can do two slices at once but does take a while. it comes out crispier than toast at home but I like it. Also good for cooking other stuff too if you have space for one.

A folding single slice toaster like the one below which folds completely flat for storage but locks into position as shown below. The mesh diffuses the heat to brown the toast very effectively. Wilkos do them for a couple of quid:

Gelert Single Slice Toaster

Sits over the burner and does in seconds - don't turn your back or have your stove on too high a heat. We have used ours as a party trick as its so fast and good - faster than an electric toaster and certainly less bulky to transport. It does a slice quicker than you can butter and jam it, so you can do a family no problems.

You'll probably get more recommendations to this effect as they are very popular on here. Unlike the 4 slice toaster gadget that featured very heavily on a thread recently about biggest failures.

you're not the only idiot.  my idiot hubby kept moaning at me that the 'toaster' didn't work, just burnt the bread - then I watched him doing it.  he did it your way - I soon put him right and now he makes lovely toast lol

On a recent thread about toasters, I was probably the only person sticking up for the 'pyramid' toaster.  The one you set up from flat into a kindof pyramid shape and set over the flame, and you can do four slices at once.  It works for me.

Patboy and Dylan, did you get to see anything of the beer festival, or the jazz in the park during your stay?  Or the Severn Valley Railway or Safari Park?  I may have passed you in the town!
