I'm planning to go to a site next summer which doesn't charge for the 'unit' at all, just a cost per adult, another cost per child and for any dogs. As a single mother that works pretty good for me as there's only one adult to pay for.

Can I ask where this site is Victoria?

I'm a single mum who camps with son and dog in (until my new bigger tent arrives!) a very small 4 berth tent with no extension, canopy, gazebo etc and am fed up of paying an exorbitant £27 p.n. when other people have massive tents and all the extensions, canopies and gazebo's that you could want and pay the same as me (minus the £2 p.n. for the dog!) I definitely think it should be per tent berth or per person and add on for the extra's.

How people can afford to camp for 2 or 3 weeks is beyond me....I can only manage 4 days maximum!

Jane.

Sorry pet but the site is in Ireland, here's some blurb I found on their website.

Pricing System:

Our pricing is simplicity in itself. There is no charge per unit (tent, caravan or camper), per car, per awning etc. The only price is per person. Hot water and showers are also free of charge, as is the use of tennis courts, rackets, and other site facilities.

Total price: €6.00 per adult per night and

€4.00 per child per night.

The site is called The Apple, and its in Tipperary.

There's such a huge variety of ways of charging that almost everyone can find a site that's reasonable for their particular party and set-up imo. Among the reasons I lkie C&CC sites is that they charge per person so work out relatively cheap for me, as I'm often solo or just with one other person, plus the dogs.

Sites where there's just a pitch fee often work out dearer, and I refuse to pay for the dog unless they lay on some special dog facilities, like a dedicated dog walking area.

It really pays to research the costs thoroughly, some sites really take the pee with their extras.
