good bits

the smell of a tent after it's been packed away for a while

the fresh air

the sun warming your bedroom on a summers morning

the family time

the walks to wherever you fancy

the bad bits

the rain

the wind

noisy neighbours

the wood pigeons on the telegraph pole right above your bedroom

having to come home

Good Bits:

The anticipation building up around March, new places to visit, meeting new people, doing what I want for a few days, no TV/Radio/Newspapers, the mini adventure of it all. The scenery and the great outdoors, Oh and of course being on here!

Bad Bits:

Inconsiderate morons and their offspring at 4pm or 4am, bird pooh on my tent, pigeons coo bloody cooing at 5:30am, lazy camp site owners who post rules but fail to enforce them. Condensation in the Gelert!

The Good

Choosing the tent
Choosing the location and campsite
Choosing the company! :)
Bacon butties
Green everthing
hot showers
putting the tent up in good conditions when everything just goes right
family time
being away on the cheap
listening to the rain patter on the tent when you're all snuggled up inside
quiet
reading
being able to go away multiple times in a year not just saving up all year for one abroad holiday
the spontaneity (?) of just being able to go
getting up in the middle of the night for a wee when the weather is clear and calm and starry
the fact that my little boy loves being away in the tent
the quality time with my hubby

Bad things:
mud
persistent rain
crap showers etc
tv noise and other excessive noise from neighbours
sloping pitches
being hemmed in
getting up in the middle of the night for a wee when the weather is nasty
but the thing I hate most is very windy conditions.

People who throw bread out for birds away from there tent ... Parents who have no idea where there kids are and think I'm a suitable babysitter once they do know where the kids are... Bloody boom boom boom music no wonder they are so noisy at nite they all have hearing probs because of it lol oh and what me dad would call lager louts

Good things

Seeing the children enjoy being outside and just playing, rather than constantly pestering me to go on the pc or their ds, they just play *proper* games like what I did as a child - shooting each other and all that sort of stuff. Great big huge adventures as far as they're concerned. In the daytime, of course!!
The smell when you wake up in a tent.
Sitting down to cook.
The satisfaction you get living simply.

Bad things

Wind.
Too much rain (don't mind a bit).
Huge queues for showers/dishwashing/loos.
Packing up

Good: The first coffee in the morning, and the first cold wine in the evening, drunk outside in the fresh air.

My girls having fun playing without anything electrical. And meeting new friends.

No TV (I could happily live without it permanently).

Bad: People with no respect for other site users, being noisy very late at night. Luckily this only happened the first time we went, our 3 recent stays were fab.

Packing up to go home!!

The last trip of the season, next spring seems so far away.

Good : deciding when & where to go, getting the car packed and everything in "just so" so that it all fits perfectly, pitching and turning the tent into "home" for a few days, sitting outside at night with a beer, and a campfire if the site allows, snuggling up in the sleeping pod all warm and cosy when it is chilly outside, and most of all the fresh air!

Bad: Trying to pitch in the rain, without everything getting soaked. People who think it is acceptable to let their kids run around screaming at 7am "because they're camping and it's not like being at home", the awful sensation of waking in the middle of the night and needing the loo, when it's been raining and everything feels damp.....

If you go camping to "get away from it all" - why take it all with you?
