It alld epends on how old you are and how many people are in your party. We used to be members of the c and c because kids camped free and there were specail family deals. We are also members of the caravan  club. We prefer cc  as we are now retired and prefer quieter sites! Families I feel that the c and c club offer better value but for couples and the retired I would suggest the caravan club/ Allmuch of a muchness its just what suits your needs best!

Problem is, according to their profile, the OP is a tent camper.

We're members of the C&CC and find it suits us perfectly. As 'over 55's' we get age concession rates and also, as we are both retired, we tend to go mid-week and get the '4 for 3' rates. This means that in mid-season we can have an EHU pitch on a club site for under a tenner a night.

Of course, many people can't do this but you still have the (usually) high standards that go with a club site. We've never been disappointed and, I must say, I've never found the sites 'regimented' in any way and have always found the site staff friendly and helpful. I've usually been offered a choice of pitches on arrival unless the site is particularly busy.

We have also started to use Certificated Sites. We had the tent field of a great little site in Kent virtually to ourselves in the middle of August. To be fair, it was an 'adult only' site, but we picked it for that very reason.

We also take advantage of the club insurance for our tent and trailer and find the monthly magazine entertaining and informative. The other readily available camping magazine would cost you more than the C&CC subscription for the magazine alone.

The website is a mine of information and the online booking system is great for checking availability of club sites.

To the OP, I would suggest giving it a try for a year and see how you find it.

Richard

I like their sites, they feel very safe for a lone woman camper and there aren't any rules that I would want to transgress, so they don't bother me. I get my membership fee back and more besides in discounted pitch fees, so it saves me money.

Actually, I'm a bit puzzled as to what rules people might object to, now I think about it.

I also can't think what rules anyone would object to.Yes you have to wait to be shown to your pitch, but we have always been given a choice.
Yes the have a 6m rule between units..but that's good and in the campers interest.
And the best rule imo is that they don't tolerate loutish/drunken behaviour, nor can you turn up in the early hours of the morning pitching your unit.

I agree - except you don't always have to wait to be shown to your pitch ! We've been told just to go ahead& set up where we want several times.

I am going to join next year, there are some lovley club sites round me in centeral scotland, with regards to value for money, dont think you can go wrong, they have a very fair system,i plan to take my daughter a few trips myself next year,as well as familey trips. On most private sites in summer, with just me and the daughter i can expect to pay 18-25 pound a night, but with the ccc payment method i am looking at paying 10.50-13.00 pound a night and that is with electric,[8.50 for me,daughter is free, electric £3.25,cant get much better value than that in my opinion.

I joined as I liked the idea of the sites being a little more secure with wardens, being a solo female camper.  Plus as they charge per person, it doesnt feel like I'm being fleeced for being solo unlike hotels etc.  I've never found theres a problem with rules, although some sites do cater more for the caravans than the tents (the one I did go to this year, I was the only tent (probably due to the weather!) and was stuck on the outskirts of the site furthest from the facilities which bugged me somewhat).    But I think thats similar across the board, C&CC or not.  Just means you have to do your homework a bit and find those who are a little more tent friendly.  The one advantage is the amount of information you get on sites on their website, making the homework that bit easier.

I'm having the same dilema.  Do I join or not.  I'm relatively new and being a lone female with a dog the club offers maybe more security.  Have stayed in the C&CC park and it cost £15, compared to a fiver in a non club site.  Facilities were much the same.  I much prefered the non club site, was far more relaxed, let you have a wee fire by your tent and just wasn't all about rules.  Had plenty of room and I'm not easily disturbed by other campers.
