I'm glad I'm not the only tent smuggler! It made me laugh to read these posts.  I accidentally showed my husband pictures with the bell tent in, which he didn't know about, thinking he wouldn't know one tent from another as he doesn't go camping - but he noticed all right!  I don't know why it should bother him as I'm the one paying.

I'vebeen busted no end of times and know only too well that pitying look!
Best one was when I had a tent delivered and it arrived 15 mins before OH got home from work. I had 10 mins to lug it up the stairs. It was so heavy, 2 steps up and 3 back. When I finally heaved it onto the top step it wouldn't go under any of the beds , with time running out, I tried to cram it in the airing cupboard in the bathroom where it fell out making a loud bang when we were having our tea!
Well and truly busted on that one!

Does anyone think that tent buying ia addictive.  I have got a popup tent hidden under the bed amongst 3 other tents and their accessories - it has been there for 5 months now and I hav'nt yet owned up to aquiring yet another tent.  I am still looking at tents to buy!

 Definitely!!!

Accessories too!!!

I've been scouring the 2011 range for an ideal 5 minute to pitch, full height, tiny pack size, stable overnight tent along the lines of the Kairos 400 that will take our airbeds,  have low level windows and a door that'll take our tarp... Although Lichfield are doing an evolution of the 500 I haven't found anything smaller in the new range and even teepees seem out this year - a double skinned version of Vango's 5 man teepee would have been a strong contender...

I can defintely say that there is nothing so far in the 2011 range that would top the tents we currently have for our types of camping... Its fortunate really as I wouldn't get another tent past the OH. He's too much in to camping to miss a tent...

I've just got to update my previous message. I went to WHSmith this morning and picked up a copy of "Camping" (Feb edition) including its tent guide for 2011...

Found an exciting addition to Lichfield's range I haven't seen on the web yet - the Trevone 4 - its an evolution of the Vango Kairos and seems to have the same 5000HH as the new Findhorn but uses 1 steel and 1 fibreglass tied arch pole. It has a SIG, uprightish front door and  full height windows. The inner is very sloped, ventilation looks a bit limited and I have no idea of dimensions yet but it looks positively exciting for an overnight tent.

I've searched but there are none on the web yet nor plans for it yet. I do hope someone stocks it so we can take a good look at it...

Oh I am so pleased, as I thought I was the only addict.

Christmas 2009, in an effort to do something different we bought a tent (Blacks Lupus), after that came the Vango sleeping bags and some basic equipment like an airbed and stove. I nagged all year (2010) to go camping and we finally went to North Wales in August. I thoroughly loved it, but after climbing Mount Snowdon I could hardly move and we realised that we needed a tent you could stand up in. I also realised we needed a living area, especially for wet days that are a constant in Wales.

On returning from Wales we agreed that we would research tents and in the winter look for a bargain, but no that didn't happen! On a trip to Gooutdoors I fell in love with the Outwell Carolina M, which was reduced to £150, I just had to have it and I wouldn't leave the store till my husband agreed to purchase it. Then I snuck online and ordered the footprint, carpet and a windshield to match. At another trip to Gooutdoors my husband bought the versatile Safari Cadac. Then it was a weekend trip to Tunbridge Wells with the new equipment.   Again I loved it, by now it was September and getting a bit cold so out came my wish list and on it went: a table, comfy chairs, the side extension, some storage, EHU and a heater. Boy, did I have fun shopping for all these items.

Finally, at Christmas this year Gooutdoors advertised the Outwell Nevada M, front extension, carpet and footprint for £150 on Boxing Day only. As you can imagine, I was sent into a tizzy, do I get it, don't I get it. I even told my husband on Christmas Day not to let me buy it. However, I set the alarm nice and early, dragged him out of bed and trotted off to Gooutdoors. On arrival there where lots of people already there, which sent me into a sulk blaming my husband for not getting up early enough and dragging his feet. You see there were only ten of these tents available per store. I was out of the car before he even stopped and taking my place in the queue. The staff at Gooutdoors were really impressive, they came out to the queue and asked customers which sale items they were after. When they arrived to me I couldn't get the words out as I had convinced myself everyone in front of me wanted this tent, but no, to my delight they still had some. They gave me a ticket and told me I would be able to pick up the tent at the till where everything was organised in trolleys. What a great system, especially as I got what I wanted, but I really was impressed at their organisation as no one could guzzump you. Since Boxing Day I have bought a shelving unit and two Outwell Camper sleeping bags. My latest purchase is an electric 35l cooler from EBay.

I know this is long winded, but it just goes to show how addictive camping is; especially collecting tents and now I know I am not the only one.

That's so funny - I can just visualise it! Thanks for the laugh!
