Call me a Little Englander if you wish but I happen to think we are fortunate to live in one of the best countries in the world weatherwise. What is nicer than watching the seasons change ? The dying of the land in Autumn and Winter and coming back to life in Spring with the buds and the blossoms. It's true we have a lot of rain but that's what makes the British countryside so attractive to behold. How many times have you heard foreigners remark that they can't believe how green and beautiful it is ? I've been in hot countries such as Jamaica and Mexico and I wouldn't swap them for old Blighty with a whole flock of geese laying golden eggs.

Beautifully put, and I so agree. In fact this is one of the primary reasons we took up camping. There are LOADS of places on this wonderful island that we still have not been too.

I also agree, this country is beautiful, although I must admit I've never been abroad. I love the fact that can just get in the car and go...I know what my accommodation is going to be, and that I can get home if I need to, if we need a doctor we can get one without paying an arm and a leg and all that.

I know we can't rely on the weather but I love the sound of the rain on a tent...providing its not for the whole week!!

Yeah I agree, apart from when it decides to p*ss it down the whole bank holiday then is like the Costa Del Sol when I'm sat in the office again

i would love to try france, have friend at work who goes and she loves it. We have a dog tho so will wait until....you know :(

Is your dog very old and/or unable to travel?  If not, the longest you need to wait is about 7 months (all in) till you get the pet passport!  Our dog is 9 and we took him from Scotland to France for the first time 2 years ago, then back again last year.  He can woof in French now!

Hello Happycampers *waves*

We are quite new to all this too! Started camping last year and really enjoying it tbh.

Can I ask though, why would you not venture too far. You say you would like to go down to South West area. What is stopping you? They have shops, they have more camping equipment coming out of their ears than anywhere lol, if you forget something you can always pick it up somewhere, or if your son starts to play up, plenty of hotels too if the going gets really bad... that is my thinking anyway! However there is so much to do down there I have trouble getting my 5 yr old back home without tears and tantrums! We tend to pop our dog into a kennel when going away, he is young, barks at any noise so would not be the most popular on the site iykwim

looking forward to hearing about your adventures

hi janiebabes, I think it's because where we go I know that it's clean, there's plenty for my son to do, even in the rain, we don't have to use the car at all once we're there which is useful cos my husband is a driver so he gets a holiday too and it's not overpriced. We usually have the car full to bursting as dog takes up most of the boot so it's not a very comfy ride anyway, but we just got a roofbox so hopefully solved that one.

We used to camp before we had the little un an we've seen some bad sites, just scared that we'll end up on one I suppose.

I see you're going to Kiln park....we've been there 3 times in one of the statics, it's lovely, not sure about the camping though cos we never used them,

Hi Safeway56.
I think you missed my point, in that the weather in the South of France, compared to that of the UK, is still the same now as it was back in 1977, in fact I would argue that the weather in the UK is now worse than what it was back than, whilst it has pretty much remained the same in the South of France.

The first time I went camping in the South of France during July was back in 1962, and I have been back many times since, for fortnight camps, in all those years we have never had rain or bad weather, it's just a fact.

Andy.
