Just browsing threads for advice about Festival camping. This is useful thanks.
Going to Camp Bestival in July with husband and two kids, and its going to be a bit of a walk from the carpark to the camping field so need to rethink my usual 'everything I can squeeze into the car' camping packing! However we'll be staying 3 nights, so I still want to be sleeping comfortably, and possibly do a couple of meals at the tent otherwise could end up very expensive if we eat out all the time.
From reading various forums, ideas I have so far are:
Trolley and rucksacks for transporting gear to site (maybe a Funky Trundle?)
Ear defenders for kids
Solar shower
Portable folding loo (maybe the Highlander Campa?) I think traveljohns might be a bit too tricky for the kids.
Earplugs
SIMs, or a battery powered pump for airbed (we usually use a car powered pump for airbed and ready beds)
Disposable bowls/plates/cutlery?
Small cooker (our two burner with gas bottle will be too big)
Frozen meals, milk in coolbox
Dry shampoo
Antibac hand gel
Loads of wet wipes!
Another tips someone gave was buying small variety packs of cereal, and just pouring the milk inside the plastic packaging, to save on washing up - the kids would love that!!
Plus of course tent & bedding. I have an Outwell Montana 6 and am worried it is too big really as a festival tent, we just won't need the living space. However Camp Bestival is pretty family friendly and not a raucous sort of festival, so I am not worried about it getting damaged. Just don't know if I can justify buying another smaller tent specifically for festivals!
Also I have realised its worth checking the rules of different festivals as to what you can/can't take.
At Camp Bestival bbqs are not allowed, and you aren't really supposed to cook at tents either but I think a small stove used sensibly will be overlooked. Also you aren't supposed to take cooking knives but someone recommended hiding one at the bottom of your sleeping bag! Also glass is banned too.
Anything else?
This is going to be very different to my usual sort of camping!
To complicate matters further we are thinking of camping at a normal site before or after the festival for a few days to extend the holiday ...
the logistics of what to take is a headache! (and husband thinks I am mad spending so long worrying about it!)
