I am sitting here laughing away to myself at all your stories, but I don't know why I'm laughing as I haven't done the whole lets test the car out yet to make sure it's big enough!!! I'm starting to worry a bit now

Well I *thought* we'd be OK with all our gear in a Zafira with just the 3 of us, but no! Luckily we're able to borrow a roof box from hubby's dad. How we'll manage for 12 days in France I don't know...I suggested a trailer but hubby isn't keen?

Good luck, I hope you don't have to leave anything behind!

When we go for weekends we usually use my Daewoo Matiz with our dog sitting on the single seat and the double seat folded down. It is just about do-able.

For a week we have to use my OH's Mercedes A170 with the double seats taken out. This year I have more stuff and a 31kg bell tent. We are going away on Easter Monday. I just know my OH will whinge about his suspension as I try to pack the car to make it look like I haven't packed that much lol!! We are hoping to change our car within the year and every time we see one we like our first thought is "Oooh, we can get all our camping gear in that!!"

Wish I could go camping more and not have to work for a living!!!

I'm sure you can. I have a Fiat Panda and we manage to get a Vango Tigris 400 and all the associated stuff - table, chairs, sleeping bags, cooker, cooler box etc in without too much bother (though I can't buy anything new as it is pretty much at its limit!)

I don't fold the back seat down as I find it fits more in if you leave it up. I lay the blankets down flat on the back seat and could add the sleeping bags to this to make a bit more space. Tent then goes over the top and 'sits' in the rear passenger seat end up - this way it is also easy to ensure it is the first thing you get out.

Make use of every inch. I put shoes and the pan set undeneath the seats and the roll mats got behind OH and he is 6'2" and has to have the seat pushed back as far as it will go. You can always push the seat back onto the roll mats as they don't mind being squashed (unlike tent poles!)

I also use those stackable plastic containers which sit one on top of the other and hold all the camping 'bits' from plates to the pack of cards. I find this helps keep the tent tidy and serves as a makeshift table.

I am a bit sad and have a 'car plan' - it gets packed up the same way every time so I know everything will fit without me having to pull things out and start again.

Good luck!

I dont know how you all do it ?
We have a Navara Pickup truck.Last year i had to buy a roof box as we were struggling for space.
This year i sold the box and bought a trailer.
Now all the main camping tackle lives in the trailer so the packing is now hopefully a breeze.
Food , bedding , kids and off.
