If your already with them call and talk to them, they can help you and can offer early termination as the car you now have is not fit for his needs as you say. Since camping is one of your fortés id say they would have to assess for equipment space as you are entitled to holidays of your chosing.

I have had 2 WAVs from Aliied mobility now and I cant fault their customer services, in december they did a quick one for me and I had a replacement vehicle by and of january when early terminating bigger WAV, was also sheer luck Motability Grants could do application over the phone for me and decision there and then as I couldnt get out to post the aplication back due to snow and mobility.

Make that call now to motability and get the ball rolling, you keep your vehicle till your new one is delivered, remember and ask for motability grants number too as you have to phone them seperate for application.

I can't help advice about adaptions to a motorbility vehicle, but I would advice to shop arouind and look at all of the different makes, before deciding which one will best meet your needs.
We have ours due to our childrens autism so didn't need adaptions for wheelchair useage, but we had very specific sort of needs that were just not listed on the searches (such as how the windows open, after our youngest lad had tried to escape once)
The one we thought was right from the websites reviews just didn't cut it when we saw it in the "flesh". All of the motorbility dealers were brilliant and none really pushed any of their products onto us when it was clear they weren't right for us.
So my advice would be to shop around before making that decision.
But and the main reason for posting was to answer this:

As she's classed as disabled they don't have alot of money for holidays and she thinks it would be a good solution.

Have you contacted any charities and found out if they can give you a grant for the equipment?
I don't know if there is such a charity for adults, but it might be worth looking in to.
I know that for severely disabled children their is the family fund and they do give out grants towards holidays and towards equipment (but don't know if this covers camping equipment or not). Other charities also fund holidays and equipment but I've only really ever used the family fund.
Have you also considered some of the caring chairites, as it maybe that a carer can be funded to support your MIL instead of your FIL supporting her giving him some respite.

and to hijack this thread emerald1 in another thread you had mentioned about only going camping once a year with a group for special needs. As you are in the next county can I ask more about it, as is it a local group etc

and are you aware of the lincolnshire autism awareness rally is being held 24th to 26th oct at the lincolnshire showground lincoln
For ticket and camping bookings and general information please contact Lynn at ingalllynn at yahoo.com
(ps it isn't me but I did go to the first one they did and it was fantastic)

Sorry about that but needed saying.

Oh not heard of this at all.
I have been a member of a lot of support groups (both in Staffordshire and Derbyshire) for autism and special needs for a number of years now and have been a chair of governors of a special school, so I've got to know a lot of different things over the years, but it is always great to find something completely new.

(sorry to original POster for thread drift, hope I am forgiven )

LOL Hijack away, I don't mind at all !!  Think it's the most posts any of my questions has had!!

It's good to see other people's experiences too so you all go right ahead.  I'm glad this thread could give us all somewhere to raise questions/help eachother out.

That's what it's all about!!!

I will see if she can get any assistance towards equipment etc.  Definitely worth looking into.

Check if your local PCT does the breaks for carers too would mean FIL could go off on a jolly or maybe get some kind of funding to help MIL to be sent off with you guys to give him a break/respite, lot of local authorities have similar things in place now but grab while you can as PCT's may be no more soon and councils are raiding pots of cash supposed to be for the disabled and vulnerable if they are not ringfenced as such by the government. Sneaky underhanded way of doing things but thats how they do it.

Back to the subject again... I'm disabled, use a wheelchair but can walk a few yards and stand for a few minutes and I camp independently but with a group of friends. I used a tall tunnel tent for a good while because it was easiest to erect and there was plenty of space for my wheels without falling over everything.   I used 2 airbeds for the height (and didn't fall off it once!)  and had a good sized kitchen stand with shelves and a camp stool beside it for cooking.

However, it was getting more difficult to pitch and arrange everything, it wiped me out for about a day after pitching, which isn't a good start to the holiday!  So in 2009 I became the proud owner of a Combicamp trailer tent, it pitches in 30 seconds (honestly!) the awning takes about 15 mins (and I have done it alone - just) but I have never had to use the awning yet, and the kitchen is on the towbar. However the big one is the bed is a proper mattress, and I leave it ready made up, just flip the lid of the trailer and I'm ready to go!

The towbar is an issue, I also use Motability car so need to purchase a new towbar with each vehicle, but the TT was incredibly cheap (on eBay) and in fabulous condition for it's age - built in 1978!!!

I hope you manage to sort something out - it truly is a great freedom to be able to camp at festivals etc.
