moppetsdad - what size is your trailer? Did it affect the centre of gravity as someone pointed out?
It's erde 101 trailer ie the smallest one thats now is superseded buy the 102, we only put light stuff in the top box, sleeping bags etc, it does not affect the centre of gravity that I have noticed but has the advantage that you can see the trailer through the back window and that helps a lot when reversing.
Hello,
I have just managed to get a free roof box from www.freecycle.org (great website for free stuff locally to you).
I have a trailer with a lid. I have run two pieces of 2x2 wood along the top of the lid (from front to rear) and bolted/screwed the roof box in place.
The method was simple and cheap, costing £10 for both wood, bolts and screws.
This also aids driving as it brings the height of the trailer up so I can see it through the mirror.
Its secure and stays stable having run down the motorway at 60mph there was no movement.

The Gruffalo (at the weekend)
See a local electrician and ask him/her to bend some 20mm conduit to fit the width and height required then just drill and bolt on (galvanised or wood trailer without hard top lid) and is very very strong. Then you can clamp a roof box or cycle carrier straight on. Voila. Cheap strong and wont rust. Just make it high enough to be able to access contents in the trailer or secure conduit with wing nuts so it just lifts of. Planned this method but went down the line of a hard top instead (See profile) although a lot more expensive.

You can buy "load bars" that enable you do this. We have done so on our brenderup trailer - these bolt to the sides of the trailer.
We got the gallery rail when we had a Brenderup trailer, then fixed bars and a roofbox to that. But, it then was much more of a struggle to lift the trailer lid - despite the roof box just having light(ish) stuff in)- so that's maybe something to bear in mind.
