I camp solo with my dog, and he is hooked up to the dog tether most of the time during the day when I am at the tent, including the times when I go to the toilet/shower block and to do washing up.
At night he comes into the tent when I am in the tent and sleeps on his bed, or mine when I am not looking.
When I go to the toilet block, I would normally take him with me, and tie him up outside. Or I may leave him zipped up in the inner tent.
He is a well-behaved little dog, and used to go camping with me.

I often camp alone with mine.
Before I go away, I track down a local kennel that is happy to take dogs for a day in case I want to go to a stately home or something. I also always check that the local pubs are dog friendly.
When going to the loo, I tie them up outside. When I shower, as it takes a bit longer, I leave them in their cage in the tent, or outside, in the cage, in the shade, if it's warm and dry.
