We usually have EHU but still prefer to use our Northstar lantern, especially when sitting outside.

It gives off a lovely warm light, and if you can't see it on the way back from the toilet block, you're in the wrong campsite - it's very very bright when on high.

I've just read what someone wrote about the kettle!

Do you think this kettle will be ok on the site?

If I go with EHU I have some plastic table lamps bought from IKEA for 3 quid each, I have three and they have 10w low energy bulbs (same light as a standard 60w bulb) These light up my tent like a home.

Have a look in IKEA they have loads of cheap lamps

We are new to camping and had a lovely week in Wales last week. We had electric hook up but used LED light bought from Wilkinsons for £4.99!! We also have a remote control battery light from Aldi which was very useful to switch off snug in your sleeping bag!!!  Both these lights were great for lighting up our tent.

Oh and no dont use electric kettles (travel ones are ok) they draw too much current 13amps at 240v which is over most EHU limits - typically 7-10amps  at 240v just use a gas stove and whistling kettle (its quicker and sounds great!)

We use an electric kettle and its absolutely fine. Just make sure its the lowest wattage you can get. We bought the Argos value one and its among our best camping purchases. It saves the gas for cooking dinners. Just dont have a heater or the likes on while using it. We use our Whistling kettle when we dont do EHU.

We've also got a little tabletop Grill and its brilliant. Its low wattage, great for heating pies etc and also makes fab toast - but the other use for it is brill too T he top gets hot and we can sit a pot on it to keep just cooked food nice and hot. Its brilliant for the morning fry up because I put the sausages etc in the mini grill and when ready transform them to a spare pot with a lid that sits on top of it. It keeps them hot whilst frying the bacon and eggs. Its brilliant.

We never have EHU, and use two forms of lighting. Firstly a rechargable LED lantern, very bright.

Inside the tent we have 2 UFO lights, 4.99 from ASDA. Absolutley brilliant they are!!! As they are so light, and generate no heat, we tie ours, one on to the roof of our bedroom pod, and one on the the ceiling of our main area. Can't rate them highly enough.
