I have a 13 ltr Camping Gaz cool box. I freeze down what I can. Then add the frozen ice blocks.
When on site I soak a towel with water and place it over cool box.
I have found the the blocks will still be cool after 3 days.
I refreeze the blocks on site in freezer if available.

I have a cool box for no EHU weekends away we pre-freeze either 1.5 litre bottles filled with water or the inside silver bags from boxes of wine - filled with water of course.  These last a lot longer than the thin usually blue ice blocks and you can drink the water as it melts meaning you always have cold water.  also you can freeze it to the shape that you need for your coolbag/box. Freeze your meats too and milk of course.  I've also put the beer and wine in buckets too.  Lots good ideas on here.  Have fun.

i agree with leonsmith we also bought a threeway fridge and has proven to be worth every single penny we spent on it 140 pounds to be exact and its win win coz you can run it on gas so you can be in the outer hebrides and still use it just make sure when using it on gas you keep it in the porch OUTSIDE the tent as it gives off fumes that will do you no good at all we have a dometic combi cool 1200 honestly spend the cash on 1 as it is justified and you wont look back.

We bought a 3-way fridge last year - best thing we ever did.

....
It's runs on gas, doesn't seem to use much and is completely silent too.

Brilliant gadget. Wouldn't be without it now. But yes, you do really need a canopy outside your tent to store it when it's running on gas.

Us too, I love my 3way fridge! And ours was a bargain on ebay £40!

Yes, the car is bigger than the 'van.

We've just got back from a week long trip...we took our Igloo Maxcold and also an electric coolbox (for drinks as there were 5 of us)

I froze 4 x 2L bottles of water before we went and added ice blocks and some frozen food too, everything else was fridge cold.  We bought a bag of ice every couple of days as there was a Sainsbury's just up the road and it worked really well - the 2L frozen bottles were still half frozen when we got back yesterday tea time and everything stayed fridge cold.

It's the first time we've used it for more than a long weekend and we're so glad we bought it now, it cost approx £75 but is worth every penny in my humble opinion

Igloo Maxcold here as well - freeze as much as possible except a small bottle of milk for a cuppa that day. No need to take ice packs at all if you plan your meals carefully - make sure all contents are well chilled AND that you chill the box with an ice pack for an hour before you fill it.

I have heard that a wet tea towel draped over it can help with leeping it cold in a hot tent. I try and put mine outside in the shade if I can.
