To be honest, as someone who has been a retail manager for years, shops have more to worry about than a simple mistake like that. Keeping stock on the shop floor without it walking out is a much more worrying problem! I have never known a member of staff sacked for making such a mistake and the only time managers are sacked for stock losses is when they run into thousands (relative to the kind of stock holding of the store obviously) and they are usually a sh*te manager anyway and deserve to go!

You know what I mean, lol! I just think it's mean people taking the moral high ground and being holier than thou over something that probably loads of people have done. It's the shops mistake - they should be more careful and do their jobs properly!!!!! Ok, the OP could have taken the poles back but the staff should have checked! Same as a shop assistant should be giving out the right change and let's face it, the till tells them exactly what to give back so you have to wonder why they can't get it right!!!!

Just waiting for the post where someone buys a tent from Go, gets it home and finds the poles are missing and complains about how c**p Go are.

Must admit - I tend to report a mistake. Sometimes the store asks for the extra item back and provides free post (e.g. a second buggy raincover) and on other occasions I have been allowed to keep the extra items (e.g. 4 packs of 4 guyropes when I only ordered 1 pack of 4).

I did get more than I expected when I paid for what I thought was a spare flysheet for our Vango Columbia 600 though. I had enquired whether there was a spare flysheet for the Columbia potentially lurking in the back of a store room and was actually sent the whole tent apart from the poles (the tent comes in 2 bags - one containing the poles and the other everything else (including the flysheet)). For the £100 they asked me for, I had actually bought the "everything else" bag not just the flysheet that I'd originally enquired about, which equated to a tent roller bag along with the flysheet, inners, detachable storage pockets, pegs, repair kit and groundsheet for the porch. As we'd already managed to buy a complete spare pole set off eBay for £25, this purchase meant that we actually got a whole new £450 tent for £125. Must admit, this was more a case of me not understanding what the price I'd been quoted covered rather than a mistake on the retailer's part - but it was somewhat unexpected.

We wanted the spares in the first place to keep our favourite tent going as long as possible. We now have a bargain priced full replacement tent stored in the bottom of the bedroom wardrobe for when our tent eventually dies - even better

I do think honesty is generally the best policy - and aids restful sleep....

Love our set-up and need no more tents or gear, so trying to stop looking!

A few years back we subscribed to a wine club where we got a box of 12 bottles of wine every 3 months for a set price. The box we should have got at the end of November was a couple of weeks late and when we enquired where it was they said they were a bit snowed under but would ensure we received it by Xmas. It arrived a week before Xmas then 2 days later we received a box with 9 bottles of wine in it loosely packed (don't know where the other 3 were), when we called the firm to tell them about the additional box we'd received they told us to keep it as pressie from them

Loving this thread! It's like reading a game of morality tennis

Thought I might drop a link in to THIS THREADto see which side of the net I will fall on?

In regard to the OP...They mess you around, you are inconvenienced, they make a mistake AGAIN, why the hell should you give up any more of your time to sort it out for them?

Keep 'em and smirk each time you walk past them in the garage!

Cheers

Graeme
