we have both but much preferred the suitcase burner this summer plus its cheaper and smaller, I'm going to buy another suitcase burner and possibly only use the double burner when there's a few of us camping.

tina, have a look at the coleman perfect flow double burner,it has 2 big gas burners that will take 2 good size pans,we decided on it to eliminate some of safety reasons people have mentioned above, works just as good as our gas hob at home, would link you to one but don't know how to.
I considered one of them, I like the look of it. I tried to justify it but it is more expensive with more expensive gas, and not as convenient as two seperate suitcase stoves. Have I missed something?

Had two of the suitcase stoves myself, bought the coleman double burner this year, and it is superior in every way.To keep this short it is good to cook on as my integrated gas hobs at home.I found it took ages to boil or cook anything with my suit case stoves, and found adjusting the heat was hopeless, high flame or nothing, turn it down and the flame would just go out, plus i feel the gas set up on the coleman is much safer,i got it for 35 pound from go outdoors,so a good price.

We've switched from a double ring gas stove to the suitcase burners, although we've only got one as Ebenezer Scrooge says' that's all we need... Which is fine for him as I do all the cooking, until the BBQ comes out and he turns into Gordon Ramsey.

I have just come back from a trip having bought an outwell single burner portable stove. I was very impressed with it. It does however need screening well from the wind as the safety device cuts the gas off. Because of the weather I cooked just inside the door of the tent where a single canister cooked four main meals and around ten kettle boils. because they are so cheap and efficient I will definately be getting another one for next year.

We use a couple of compact folding windshields from such as Gelert to shield our suitcase stove (see below). These have thin poles at the end designed to stick into the ground but we have developed a method that means we can use them on a table. BTW one of these wind shields will fit in our Campingaz Bistro case along with the stove.

Our method - We have a few plastic bulldog clips with small holes in the ends which we use for all sorts of purposes camping (similar to the ones pictured). We clip these to a backpacker table/roll-top table and pop the thin poles of the windshield through the 2 holes in each clip. Holds the windshields nice, firm and upright around the suitcase stove.

Snopake Snappa Clips

Gelert Aluminium Folding Windshield

BTW - these clips can also be used to secure tablecloths, as clothes pegs, hold a rubbish bag on a windbreak and even a lamp or light coat on an upright pole ... we have 4 and they always seem to be in use for something...

Love our set-up and need no more tents or gear, so trying to stop looking!

a couple of week ago i was in this position i had the double burner gas cooker with bulky gas bottle and not very good grill and i decided i was going to try the suitcase stove
so i bought one and we went away [7 of us] for a long weekend and all i can say is they are brilliant. i put it on my kitchen stand so had the wind shield round it and because it sits lower than my double cooker the wind shield acted as a good splash back for any slops or fat spits, and it is so user freindly just take out of case and put gas cartridge in and your done no messing conecting bulky gas bottles. i managed to cook a bacon eggs sausage mushrooms beans tomatoes for breakfast, fried onions and boiled new potatoes for bbq, had soups and sausage sarnies and loads of cuppas and we only used 3 gas cartridges so it worked out quite reasonable. i am going to buy another one to make cooking the breakfasts a bit easier though, but to keep food warm i always line a plastic tub with foil put food in wrap foil round it put lid on tub then put tub in one of those zip up cooler bags and the food stays nice and hot till im ready to serve it.
i would definatley recommend the little suitcase stoves

other option would be a small electric hobb...... hmm would need EHU then.. unless you can run them from a leisure battery....???

Not a hope from a leisure battery. You would need an inverter, to convert to 230v and, even if the battery could release the current quickly enough, you'd flatten your battery in much less than an hour. EHU is essential with electric cooking.
