After taking my sister camping in the Summer (for that one day!) she has got 'the bug' bought a tent and this weekend we are test pitching her new and our new tents. There maybe alcohol involved too ;o) Hope everyone enoys their weekend away.

BTW we are off to Horsley, Surrey (about 10 miles from home)

We are going to The Station Inn camping and pods this week end. This time we will camp but really we want to check out their pods. Have you stayed in pods before and if so what do you think/ any tips?
Les D

Les, never stayed in one before, step daughter bought it for us as a present and we booked it for this weekend because we thought it would be too cold for our tent this time of year and we could make use of the electric!  As it happens we could have taken the tent but never mind, will let you know some tips when we get back   Have a good time camping

It always rains on tents. Rainstorms will travel thousands of miles, against prevailing winds for the opportunity to rain on a tent.

The change in weather is a lovely surprise. Am off to the Lakes this weekend with the hound and hope to climb lots of big hills. Have birthday money (essential in frugal times) and will travel! I'm so excited as I was on the verge of glumly putting my gear in the loft after the rainy summer but I plan to take lots of photos full of sunshine and breathtaking scenery to see me through the winter.

I have been lurking on these forums all summer after joining many moons ago so hello to all and sundry!

Jill

Oh Lyn! That's sad! I hope you've set up Skype for the video bedtime-stories. And I look forward to reading about your camping jaunts to Norway! But it's still sad. I'd love to be a granny. Can't wait.

Thank you. Skype already to go. That way I can tell camping stories!

Great news Jill - enjoy your trip and be sure to bag a few Wainwrights.

Hi and welcome. Why not join one of the many UKCS members' meets one day?

Thanks Skip - a fellow walker! I think I'll be doing Bowfell and Great End as well as possibly the Buttermere Horseshoe if possible. Can't wait.

As a lone human camper (dog is great company though) I'm quite tempted to come along - I'm sure it's great fun to put faces to usernames.

My friend wrote some special tales for her granddaughters and recorded them onto a CD so she could be there virtually to read them a bedtime story when they moved away. Ain't technology grand sometimes?

I can speak from experience here and say that the meetings are great fun. Everyone is friendly and its nice to have some company, even if its only in the evenings for a meal.

Everyone is really helpful as well, which has been a really good thing for me. I don't drive, so sometimes it is awkward to get to some sites or places. This has not been a problem though as members here have helped out with a lift to the nearest station, even going out of their way to do so.

Thanks PrivateH,

I shall make a concerted effort next year which of course will be jam-packed with sunny BBQ days (fingers crossed).

The forum seems to be full of friendly folk (all good stuff) so I'll keep my eyes peeled for meetings. It will be good to enthuse about a particular tent or bit of kit with like-minded people rather then being regarded as a total fruitcake.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Jill
