I have a pan like this but it also has a second pan which sits on top which has perforations across the base,anyone know what the second pan is for ???

I would say steaming but there is very little steam so how about smoking?

Sounds a good idea..I wondered if it was to keep food away from the direct heat,jacket pots or camembert etc...maybe Ill give it a go tonight...thanks :)

Just back from Cornwall and tried the pan for chips and chicken breast. Excellent result for the chips, non-greasy, hot and tasty. Chicken breast was fine but I should have used more seasoning.
It will be getting more use later this month.

This pan sounds really great, I may well invest in one for camping and home alike!

Does it really do jacket potatoes in 30 minutes, if so that is fantastic, does anyone know how you do them?

Most interesting. We have just returned from 2 weeks in Scotland and although we took the dry pan we only used it once. Before we went I bought a mini-oven from Aldi and that is much better. It's quite slow, only 800w, but cooked everything we wanted. It will do toast the American way, broiling I think they call it. A whole chicken or jacket pots would have defeated it I think, based on the time it takes. The problem with the dry pan was if you put,say, a quarter chicken in part of it burns where it touches the funnel. Also I am not convinced it actually 'bakes' the food. I think it fries it because my gas ring is larger than the funnel hole in the centre. Anyway, the pan is now back in the garage !

I used to have one and used it a lot but it got lost in one of my moves - won't be replacing at that delivery charge!

I have an old cast iron dutch oven & have used it for baking potatoes on a camp fire & on top of woodburner at home, just oiled potatoes wrapped in foil & turned over half way through.
