Well someone on here did say, that buying a caravan/motorhome turns a cheap holiday, into an expensive hobby, and I guess you would agree with that.

My take on camping with a large tent, is that UK is just not the place, due to the lack of consistant good weather, we only ever do the South of France in July, and have done that since the late 1970's, for our fortnight campings.

But as age creeps up on me, I am thinking, "Folding Camper" or "Pop-Top Caravan", although I think I can easly manage another 10 years with the Tent, so plenty of time to save up for my next unit.

By that time, the cost will not be an issue, I will just be spending the kid's inheritance, untill I kick the bucket, and with a bit of luck, I will go out of this world, with what I arrived with, which is nowt of course!.

You said the UK weather no good. So you cannot go out of the world as you came in, best put a little loin cloth on with the jumper  and the socks of course . Then your ready to go.We have already started skiing & have the jumper etc ready but not for at least 20+ yearsso more skiing will make nothing left over.

We have a vango maritsa700, which at 7.5 by 5m is large but we just book a larger pitch. It has a porch area with built in groundsheet, we use ours as kitchen and for storing shoes etc. There are 3 sleeping pods and the living area is huge!!!! Easily takes our table and four chairs with plenty of space left. We love our tent :-)

Ahhh !! Turns out my OH isnt as keen on the idea as I am  She would prefer not to spend hundreds of pounds on a new tent as she reckons we'd only use it for a couple of weekends a year or the odd week's holiday.... May need to find a new wife

Back to ebay to see what's around

I think you should get a cheap second hand, standing height tent off ebay, spend your money on comfy beds and chairs. After a few weekends she'll be smitten and then you can save towards the Outwell.

I would recommend any three pole 5 man tunnel tent, like this one link

I'm looking at a Vermont XLP too, though must admit, the cost is a bit eye-watering    I'm hoping the real price is a bit lower than anticipated.

Another possible option might be a 2011 Vermont L, which is on special at Taunton Leisure at the moment - £558 which is respectable. The bedrooms might work for you, though not for me, I'd rather the kids had their own rooms just for the sake of my ears!

Alternatively, offer the elder one a pup tent just outside the main tent so that they feel like they've got some independence?
