There you go.

Personally I would be more concerned about fat spitting and spluttering around inside the tent. Who wants that?

But fire or carbon monoxide poisoning are always a possibility when naked flames are used and all precautions should be taken.

Bottom line is fire isn't a problem (where intelligence and common sense are present) people are....my advice is only take sensible people with you

I agree with the comment above, it is down to the common sense the person has. I have been cooking in tents (cabanon canvas) for many years,no problems. Just ensure you have a good appreciation of the heat the cooker is giving out.Leave adequate space and ventilation and remember when you put a pan on the gas the heat is forced more side ways.

Saying that, I do not think I would cook in a Nylon/synthetic tent though, due to the combustability and melting risk. Highly risky.I have used a camping gaz double cooker with grill for years with no problems, even with all on at the same time.

When you go camping and see how some people set up their tents and cooking facilities you can't believe it some times.Even well seasoned campers.

The same for everything else in life, most objects are perfectly safe until you add people.

The tent fire shows a trailer tent which presumably has the larger gas bottle, a great reason for getting the hell out of there (and staying out).

Poor chap, he did his best, but with the wind he was never going to win that one.  Hope it was insured, and the peeps downwind got compensation for smoke damaged gear!

LOL - never a truer word :)

As others have said - there is no black and white here - everything in life carries a risk - It's a matter of weighing up the risk against the situation and using common sense.

I've boiled water in the porch (whilst zipped up) of my small Avior x3 when I've made coffee before getting out of my sleeping bag - however, if I was travelling with kids or dogs for instance, then I probably wouldn't.

As a general rule, if you're not sure if something is safe, don't do it until you learn what the risks are and how to mitigate them - that pretty much goes with anything camping!
