Correct the ice-cream is brilliant you can visit where it is made, we have yet to do that but we will.

Yes the pitch size is huge, you could fit two large tents on each pitch with ease. Plus as you know each pitch has a wooden bench which is handy. As a couple we really haven't spent enough time in Scotland and we're trying to catch up. I have worked in the Edinburgh and Glasgow areas but had very few holidays. Last year we visited the most southerly part of Scotland and Les wants to visit the most Northerly. I want to visit the whiskey trail, so plenty to keep us busy.

I'm very lucky as Chris (my hubby) spent all his holidays in Scotland, mainly in Arisaig on the west coast dispite being a Yorkshire lad. His whole family love it & as I get homesick we generally spend as much time as possible back North.

We have a week booked in Aviemore in early November as chris hasn't been there since being a baby & it will give me a chance to catch up with family on Skye, the only problem is it's such a long drive from East Yorkshire whereas SW Scotland is easily doable.

I have high hopes for the site, the showers etc look good, the owners seem lovely & they've clearly thought about what campers want rather than just profit so it will be nice to switch off for a few days & discover a new area. Let's hope the weather is favourable for us!

Yes we can vouch for the amenities, the shower block is very modern and spotless. The site has won several awards and I'm sure they will win more. Unfortunately we are at the mercy of the weather (as always) and it has been very drafty whilst we have been there but it is in a good position there being plenty of interesting places to visit without having to travel too far from the site. Anyway here's hoping that the weather is reasonable if not I suppose Les and I will just have to sit in our tent glass in hand looking at a fantastic view

Thanks for pointing me here MrsMacP! It'll be our first time at Solway View too, tho have driven to it to have a nosy when camping at Loch Ken.You'll be double excited if you've also got a new tent to try out!

I agree with Keanonwuk that the area is beautiful with lots to do and I think we're going to take a trip to the Smokery to see what delights they have on offer.

Our children are looking forward to a campfire, as are Mr S and I, with a wee glass of wine! Friends of our parents are lucky enough to have their caravan permanently pitched on the bay opposite Solway and they're also going to be there at Easter! Only 26 days til we sleep outside in a field! Yippee!

See you both there
Tracey

We will definitely be visiting the smokery also as last year we found the most amazing smokery on North Uist so can't wait to compare.

What a novelty it will be to have a campfire! I'm just hoping this lovely weather continues as it gives me a good excuse to sample the local ice cream which I hear is lovely :-)

Out of interest, how long do you think it will take you to travel from Livy? Some of my family live in East Calder & Deans. We've spoken about meeting up in that area for future trips (I'm originally from Kirkliston) just to save hubby & I always being the ones travelling. None of the family have spent much time in that area so it would be a new adventure for us all!

Oh 26 days will fly by hopefully...yippeee!

Yum, the icecream is Fab, definately recommend it!

What a small world it is, we're in Lady well so only a few mins from Deans. I think it took us about two and a half hours last time, we always under estimate it. Worth it though.

Here's hoping the time flies!

we went to solway view last year, what we saw of the site and surrounding area was fab, sadly it was a very windy weekend, and despite our best efforts to save the tent, the majority of poles snapped, so we had a night in the car, and came home the following day.....whilst there we walked to the small beach, through the wild garlic, and bluebell, we are aiming to get back this year at some point, enjoy your trip, your tent sounds fab.
Happy camping

There are a couple of Smokeries around the area but we have only been to the one at Carsluith Castle on the A75. Fantastic view at the rear of the Smokery in good weather you are able to eat outside. The food is as varied as it is mouth-wateringly (if thats a real word) wonderful but you will need plenty of funds, might be worth leaving the credit card at home. Or do as we did and say "sod it".

Hi just read your starting post, Congratulations on your Kampa Purchase ! the frinton 4 has not changed in size or shape ever since it was produced. What you might find though is Kampa used to make there Footprints from weave matting so water would drain away but had a bad review because of this... So have been making the Footprints the same as everyone else's now (Tarp)So just make sure you no which one you are buying

Hi Camperite,

Now you've got me worried!  I bought our footprint from here: http://www.camperlands.co.uk/kampa-frinton-4-footprint-groundsheet.html

The price was good & I didn't think it would make any difference it being for the 2010 version but now you've got me wondering....

Will need to dig it out of the garage and see what its made of as the website doesn't state.

Thanks for the heads up!
