Well that's me decided, come pay day I'm going to become a member of C&CC, it just seems to make sense if we're going to get away a bit this year, thanks
I wouldn't be too hasty at joining the C&CC until you have done some research. It is going to cost you the joining fee of £39 before you have been anywhere.
The C&CC club sites charge per person so that could work out expensive for a family.
The small CS's are probably better for a family because they tend to charge for two adults and two children although you need to check their locations and facilities. Some are a little isolated with basic or no facilities.
Club sites can get busy and it is often necessary to book well in advance. Whenever you book you will need to pay a £25 deposit and this is non-returnable within 7 days of the date of your trip.
Imagine a scenario where you wish to go camping on a Friday so you book and pay a deposit on the preceeding Monday. Unfortunately come Friday 40mph gale force winds are forecast at your chosen site and you decide it is too dangerous to go...that's £25 deposit down the drain! No returns and no credit notes. Add that to the £39 you paid to join (total £64) and you still haven't been anywhere yet. That's pretty much what happened to me.
Check all the C&CC club sites and CS's in the area you are likely to be camping and make sure there are plenty for you to choose from otherwise you will find yourself having to go to ordinary commercial sites instead and will have wasted your joining fee.
It may pay you, if possible, to check out the quality of the tent pitches at your chosen C&CC sites before committing yourself because as stated they are well used and often rather lacking in grass.
Apart from that, the C&CC is great.

Even with some of the price increases you speak of, for us, we are starting to have camping holidays because everything else, in high seasons because we won't take the children out of school, is prohibitively priced! We have three children too, and many hotels or B&B don't cater for families of 5. Country cottages and similar either don't accept children, are too far away from anything to entertain the children much or again, are priced out of our range. We've been to centre parcs for several years, but, that was before the school holiday issue, we simply cannot afford to go there now.
Although initial start up costs are going to be steep, each time we use the equipement it becomes better value for money. It also means we can get holidays with my parents and my parents in law, as they either have a motorhome or a caravan.
Yes, there may have been increases, but, the people running the sites have to make a living out of it, and maintain facilities and, well, we all know how much everything has gone up in the last couple of years (my shopping bill this week almost made me weep).

Jeez lads, ye have it good across the pond.
We're in the Republic of Ireland and prices are crazy but it's not known as Rip Off Ireland for nothing.
We stayed in 4 sites this year, 8 man tent, EHU, 2+2+1 dog
Our favourite site really ticks all our boxes, all 4 of us love it. It's also one of the cheaper sites that we'd consider properly kid friendly in a way that there's loads for them to do, very safe and they can roam where they want without us worrying. Comes in at €35(roughly £32) per night but stay 7 pay for 6 so about €210(£195ish) for the week. Showers are free.
This spot has a good playground, both indoor and outdoor, loads of empty green space, big pitches, a small animal farm, a chipper and free showers.
Another of our favourites is a beach side place. It's €40 per night but no free night for staying a week so works out at roughly £37pn or £255 a week. Showers are an extra €1 and the site is huge so you could be a 2/3 min walk from the toilets, showers and kitchen. It's got a poor enough playground but huge sand dunes and a beach like something from a post card that was a 30 second walk from out pitch this year.
We've noticed that prices crept up a little between 2018 and 2019. Mostly about €2/3 a night but some went up by €5.
Ridiculous insurance costs are being blamed for this but with the summer we had in 2018 there wasn't a pitch to be found anywhere for July and August so I reckon the site's figured all these new campers would surely be back in 2019, making demand jump massively so the price rose with with it.
