In a word NO not for over night.Any type of heater that burns a fossil fuel, gas ,petrol or it'sdirivitives, coal etc,WILL give off CO2. If you want a heater that is safe to be left on over-night,I would suggest an electric heater,be it a fan, convector or radiator type. Also any bbq that has been used, should be left outside the unit until it has gone fully out and all the used fuel emptied out if it is a charcoal type.

I have one of these heaters and have used it without problem, but I follow what I have written below.

This type of heater is alright if everyone is awake, but when it is in use,if anyone starts to feel suddenly tired,it should be turned off,and the unit ventilated.

We use a fan heater bought for £7.99,and have a very small table to stand it on,and have not had any problems, our main concern was that it would be knocked over, especially by the dog,but he just lies in front of it staying warm, but at a safe distance. He is not allowed to go too close to it.

Its not worth the risk. If the flame blew out during the night you wont be waking up in the morning. We've got one and we only use it to warm the air in the morning and for getting ready for bed at night.

Better with a fan heater if you can take EHU (or layers if you cant)

The heater can be used in the tent, during the day or evening,  the flame should be blue not yellow.  never be left alone or left on while everyone is asleep.    cannisters do not last that long if left on. and on high,  plus the flame may go out.    Always remove the cannister when not in use, as it can still dispense gas.

Oh my gosh I am totally over whelmed by all the replies! Thank you so much to every one, it shows how kind and caring people can be for others that they don't even know!

When we go camping to BMF ( a motorbike festival) there is no EHU so have to use a gas heater. I will use this heater but in well ventilated tent, near the door like someone said, and it will not be left unattended at any point! It will only be really in the evening whilst getting girls ready and into bed and snuggled and then again first thing in the morning!

Thank you again to everyone

I have one of those and just use it for about 10 mins before retiring to the tent to take of clothes and get into bed, it makes a difference if your warm once you get into your sleeping bag. I agree with all the posts about safety. If you need it on all night there is something wrong with your sleeping attire or sleeping bags. Even arctic campers dont have heaters on all night! It would just make the tent stuffy, hot, and as others said chance of nasty fumes. YOu really only need them to take the edge off.

I used a gas heater in days gone by, for an hour or so before bed, but was always careful to leave the vents open.

I would never leave any heating appliance on overnight, but then I switch of everything at home too!

Please Please have a word with this friend of yours tell them not to leave this type of heater in the tent all night even if the heater is turned of it should still be outside whilst you are sleeping in case of gas leakage
You could tell your friend to read the posts on this forum about accidents with heaters, bbq, ect in tents it seems there are more cases of late than ever some reported in the press others on here
Never use heaters of any kind ourselves just good sleeping bags but think this is because most of our camping has been spent backpacking only started car camping a few years ago but still use the same gear
So please anyone dont do it you only get one go at this life thing there is no second chance so camp safe.
Linda

Its a No from me too...I use one to heat the tent before bed...Turn it off and remove the canister...I then reinsert the canister to heat the sleeping pod up in the morning...If its a bit cold and overcast....

I once witnessed a carp fisherman kicking one of these things out of his tent after a flare up where the canister is supposed to lock into the appliance..That was one lucky angler as he had it in front of him at the front of his bivvy blocking his escape....

And its a very big NOfrom me I can't believe some people are still saying its ok for 10 mins or as long as you don't leave it alone come on people we have just recently tragically lost two families to carbon monoxide poisoning and something burning what ever fuel it is gives off carbon monoxide, The instructions on this type of heater clearly state to be used in the open or well ventilated area this does not mean inside a tent with SIG and poor ventilation
