I see again posts saying poly tents are useless after 6 months of uv exposure!!!!! I'm not so convinced and seems to be what the magazines say I've had loads of tents used in hot high uv countries and my tents are still going strong one after 30years!!!!!
Ok so one at dealers look rough and ripped ,
They will be they will have had people treating them badly constantly touching the sides kids falling on them up for more than 12 months + constantly they probably endure 5 years heavy no care use in less than 6 months!!! There will be some tents out there that fail, maybe due to faults in manufacture doesn't this happen ith all things made???

Tim I fully respect what you are saying and i am sure that your 30 year old tents are all still going stong, but 30 years ago tents were made of good quality material and were made to last

sadly the same cannot be said for most of the stuff on sale today, poor quality material made in china, and a lot of them are absolute rubbish

I looked at retailer last week that was selling a so called four berth family tent for £70.00, would it last six months i doubt it would it last a week, maybe if you were lucky, it was shocking quality and looking at the stictcing and seam sealing it was going to leak straight out of the bag

I bought a tent four years ago used it once and it has never been out of the bag since, it is a middle of the road brand and the fabric over the dome is that thin it looks like it has got holes in it, the only thing that would stop it leaking is the very thin waterproof membrane applied to the back of the fabric and looking at that it woulsd soon fail and let in water

Thanyou  Force Ten , the seams are definatly a problem ,but the top of the inner tent got wet and i mean wet ,right through so we got wet beds , didnt notice any brittle or white on the roof of tent , will give it a good fabsil and do all the seams if the weather ever drys up enough, ive had loads of tents over the years and all different types not once have i had a problem so guess ive just been unlucky this time . Now to convince OH that we need an canvas tent when we already have a spare tent ? well after all there is still a bit of room in my camping cupboard.

Agree force ten but you kinda hit the nail on the head ! ie cheap tents in the market
But I'd of thought the Kyham if it's been cared for would last a few years
Fr example I wouldnt touch the cheap Tesco /halfords tents
I've seen better Action man tents
