I did look at campervans before getting the new stand up in tent but the ground clearance wasn't good enough. and the conversions had horrendous fuel comsumption, stuck with the tent.

Tents are great in summer (what summer? bought myself a new tent 3 weeks ago and still haven't used it )

But they are no fun when it's cold and wet.

I love my little caravan in winter ................. I'd love a campervan even more but sadly funds at present don't allow.

I camp throughout the year in my tent, just need to be prepared for cold and wet weather, that's all.

I think the fact that the guy trying to sell the van was rude does not mean that people who use campers or caravans should be tarred with the same brush Have yet to come across anyone rude wether a tenter or a vanner!

Wombal1, we tend to tour mostly, so were pitching and packing the tent every day. Now we have the 'van, we still tend to move on most days. When we don't we have bikes to use to get about. And because our van is small, there's not much scope for leaving things around, packing for a day trip is easy. But if it was too far to cycle, we'd probably move to the next campsite.

Re the 'van colour. Ours happens to be white, but as it is a conversion, we did sort of have a choice. I said I'd rather not have white, black or yellow, anything else would do. But our dealer had to source a van first, and we asked for a tailgate model. The best he could do in the time was this white one, so that's what we got. he had some lovely colours on his forecourt though.

Love the picture DK, but closest I've been to that was December in a Combi Camp, storm force winds and heavy rain, it took me weeks to dry it out and I vowed never again.

Wombal1, there's a bit of difference in the amount of work required to break camp in a tent compared to stuffing everything back in the cupboards of a campervan, unplugging the EHU and driving away. About 2 hours v. 10 mins.

We've considered a caravan or motorhome, but we'll carry on camping until we physically can't any more (hopefully not for a few years yet).

Work commitments mean that while we do well we'll spend a max of 6 weeks under canvas, including 3 weeks plus on the Continent. Foe the outlay of a van or motorhome we'd want to do more than that to get our money's worth. Roll on retirement!

I agree with L Gilligan, this gives salesmen a bad name not campervaners or caravaners. It was just the general atmosphere at the Stratford show and the amount of dogs that were about made us think not for us! Seemed almost like have motorhome have dog! Never been a fan of dogs having been bitten as a kid and treading in dog mess is just horrible - I know most dog owners are responsible (I have friends and family with dogs) but some aren't!
