Totally agree. Don't do it if isn't fun and for some of us the wet weather makes it less than that. Whilst we still have our week away booked in Aug, I pleaded with the OH that if it's a washout we'll be really depressed. So I booked a week in an apartment in Pembrokeshire next week. At least if its a washout there we have a great view and extremely comfortable surroundings. If Aug is great too then bonus!
Don't be apologising for your choice of holiday. We just got back on Friday from 2 extremely wet and windy weeks in Cornwall, which would have been even better with a bit of sun. We had 3 days of fog, more rainy days and showers than I can count and I wouldn't blame anyone for going in a caravan given the choice , especially when the wind was battering the tent at 3 am. Have a lovely time!
I am off on my first proper camping trip at a site (have been before but in fields belonging to friends with large groups) - just me and my two girls (10 and 12) in my tent and my sister and her other half (seasoned campers) in their tent.
I will be taking an independent hostel guide with me just in case and, as we are camping in Norfolk, the phone numbers of various friends who live in the area. And if the worst comes to the worst, I'm sure there will be a Travelodge in the area!
I have seriously considered cancelling but the girls are looking forward to it so much and I also feel like I will be letting my sister down. But I'm not looking forward to it - not one little bit!
