Even if you have a decent s/bag it does no harm to take an extra layer in case its needed...Extra layer lying there beside you...Feel a bit chilly...reach out and put the layer over you....Extra layer in the house...Feel a bit chilly...You will stay chilly!!!.....

I have a four seasons bag...but still(in the early/later months) take and old sleeping bag to throw over me if its needed...If its in the car or tent and not needed fair enough...If its in the house and needed.....Well!!

Jelboy.

Thanks for all the advice. We did do a trial garden sleep actually Mucker, but it was last September, can't remember the temps but I'm pretty sure it was warmer than present temps. It was before I'd bought a sleeping bag so we made do with a picnic blanket then a duvet on the floor with another duvet on top. Was a bit lumpy if l recall but certainly snuggly. I'll definitely pack a few extra fleece blankets....better safe than sorry.

We camped last weekend and it was pretty chilly at night. We had the fan heater ticking over all night and our new vango sleeping bag and a duvet over the top. We use camp beds and sims at this time of year. We were lovely and warm

we camped last July for 2 weeks, in fleecy p.j's. We are in a trailer tent but still needed hot water bottles, all our layers 15 tog duvet & our radiator on low all night. It was cool enough during the day but nights were freezing. But we were warm.

Hoping for warmer nights this year but we still keep everything in the trailer just in case.

After a 3 year break the trailer tent is back in use. Here"s to 2016.

Cold? Na. As said with decent sleeping bag your fine. I find people don't seem to toughen up anymore. They wont put themselves out of comfort zone.

One memorable example of this was when i went camping in June at Edale with friends. Couple of the girls turned up with 3 suitcases full of pillows and quilts, however hadn't crossed their minds to bring useful things like a bed or a plate. Even more infuriating they only decided to bring a card and no cash. grrrr.

Last May bank holiday it was -6 overnight on our first camping trip, we were in a small crawly tent that we could just fit the sims/ air beds in. I had layer after layer on.

This year we've had a new tent, new Sims, new thick sleeping bags, and its looking like we're in plus figures overnight this weekend. I've got my fingers crossed.

i've been planning for the last 2 weeks on going to Glenbrittle on Skye this weekend.. I must admit to being a tad apprehensive as the overnight temps look pretty cold and breezy to boot, but i'm determined not to cancel.. this will be my first cooler camping trip.. I normally wait until it's at least 15, but hoping it will mean no midgees!

There's a great deal to be said for going when it's too cold for the defenders of the highlands to get their tiny teeth into you... I was in Snowdonia for a short break until yesterday and it was 2C by bedtime on Saturday - thank goodness I had hook-up. Didn't leave the fan heater on overnight, that'd make me nervous and the purring sound would annoy me (and possibly other campers?) but it was very handy for a warm-up.

I remember someone saying to me when we first started camping that even in summer it still gets cold during the night. We only camp from the end of may to the beginning of september and we have campbeds with airbeds on top, which I find warmer than airbeds on the ground, which we did first, our bed set up goes campbed, rubberised airbed, blanket, sheet and then sleeping bag which i used open and tucked under the airbed rather than zipped up and then a fleece blanket on top. I don't wear really thick pyjamas, I wear standard strappy ones as I find my body heat keeps me warmer like that, if I wake up cold I just slip a sweatshirt or cardigan on on top. I think the most important thing for me is not going to bed cold, so I take a hot water bottle, or, I warm the bed up with a hairdryer before I get in, aslong as i'm warm I can fall asleep. Socks are good on particularly cold nights too.

I have tried leaving my heater on, but I always get in bed and then can't get to sleep as I worry about leaving it turned on!

That's us!

We had a minus 4-5 night in Luss at Easter, my lad was in a synthetic winter bag with thermals on and he was on a 10cm self inflating mat, I have a rab down bag with an exped synmat and even wearing practically nothing, was toasty.
