There seems to be a bit of a movement of people on here lately trying to downsize, though they get pretty lost amongst all the glamping threads (and nothing wrong with that).
As quoted from oldham on this thread "..The more you take the less you go..".
We like to take shorter breaks, more often, rather than a 2 or 3 week summer break, and have found this to be true - the less we take, the more we enjoy it. Taking too much stuff makes loading/pitching/striking camp/packing it all away again, seem like a bit of a chore sometimes.
However, downsizing is hard and we've not progressed that far yet. Our weather is quite varied, so there's a lot of 'just in case' equipment. We only started camping again last year, and made a few purchase mistakes initially (e.g. table too big), and are now slowly trying to correct this. Spending a little more on better quality essentials (bedding for example), seems like a good way to go.
There are only 2 of us (plus small dog), and we can fit all our kit in our Ford Focus without roof box or trailer, so I don't think that we're doing too bad, although when it's all piled beside the car for packing it looks as though it will never fit 
How do you others who try not to take too much stuff strike a balance between minimalist and being prepared for any eventuality? Any tips?
