It is a great age to go. It's harder when they are off and you have to keep an eye on them. My youngest is 4 and constantly wants to be in the playground, though I won't leave her for more than a few minutes. I always think that if you take them early enough then they will feel like they've always been and it won't feel strange to them say if you took them along at age 5 or so when they can be a bit more fearful of the dark or strange places. Mine both went from a few months old. They love it.

We took our daughter camping first at 4months in a very cold march, as we had hook up a fan heater was essential. But she has loved it ever since.
We took her too latitude festival at 7m.
Food warmth and keeping dry... I think the little ones are easier to keep happy on not so nice days too x
Off to lings meadow Friday Eden is now 20m. Looking forward to letting her run around on a smaller campsite have always been to large ones.
Enjoy your trip and I hope the little ones enjoy. :) x

Do people take travel cots with them or a Moses basket? Having a child due early next year my husband is sad that we might have to give up camping for a few years. Our other child is a bit older now and will go with daddy, but we have always liked the freedom for our family holidays.

Yep, have done it. Dvd player is handy.

Don't bother with a travel cot just use a 'gro bag' like at home, a rollmat and cover the top end of the rollmat with a cotbed sheet - to rest their head on.

Think it's easier with little ones as a field to run in amuses them much more than a grumpy 12 or 14 yr old.

Do it!

I took a travel cot for the tent when they were small babies, later they just slept on a mat.

I will be honest - this age was the worst for me with DS1 lol! Took him at 5 months - brilliant. Then the following year at 16 months - came home after 2 days! Needed eyes in the back of my head - he would run away at every opportunity, couldn't keep him out of any of the camping gear.... Think the site and the tent didn't help though. DS2 was much easier at 15m, although we had bigger tent, more open site and other people to help out - I just remember him going over to the next tent to wash his hands in the dogs water bowl every two minutes!
