Thanks for the replies folks. I will give any camp site a ring before going. I would be happy to pay extra for a larger pitch if necessary but considering some of sizes of units/awning/tents etc others get on a single pitch would strongly resist anyone trying to charge me for 2 pitches.

thanks again for responses

Aren't the cost of the pitches only a part of the cost ? Some of the fee must be paying for the facilities or would the owners be expected to provide them for free ?

A pitch often includes two people, then you pay for additional

As a solo camper, I have never had a problem with having a Tarp or Utility Tent on the same pitch (at no extra charge). But I tend to avoid regimented the sites and go to sites that allow free pitching.
If when looking for sites and the web site says it charges for kitchen tents etc, I go elsewhere.

Cotswold view caravan and campsite in Charlbury, try that one. They will allow 2 tents on a pitch. Pitches are huge, lovely site, fab for kids and touring the Cotswolds.

A two to three man dome tent is about the right size for a pup tent, no more.

Just one thing to consider. I have put the tent up in the middle of my pitch, leaving enough room for chairs out front and maybe the car on one side. The person next to me turns up and pitches two family sized tents, taking up the whole of their allotted space. So now one of the tents is really close to my tent and I can hear every conversation, snore, night time fart - I suppose I could potentially hear these things anyway (as they would me) but I know I wouldn't want to feel crowded.

Don't get me started on this one.
Ah by&&er it.
C&CC (or should I say the ex stasi staff I seem to meet) say you can fit a massive caravan or motorhome sleeping as many as will fit in it on a pitch no problem but if I turn up with two solo backpacking tents one for me and one for my daughter we have to pay for two pitches and be 6 metres apart.
The footprint of these two tents is usually less than the car that has dragged the afore mentioned caravan to the site!
So much for the camping part of their title.
To add insult to injury, I have used Keswick C&CC site for thirty years. Each visit I ask if we can have a lakeside pitch, then we enter into the farce that was, "two tents, that's two pitches","Is your tent under 1.8 metres", "Would your tent fit under this broom shank"."It's not us you know it's the National Trust","You can't park your car next to your tent". You get the idea, I've only been successfull 50% of the time in getting the pitch where I want.
Well I turned up last June, confronted by the same $#!te again denied a lakeside pitch. Whilst being escorted to my allotted space close to the dog toilet, sorry "walk" (I have a dog ok) I see a bloody great motorhome on a brand new hard standing right in the middle of the "lakeside" area.
I was proper pi$$## off.
Campers and especially small unit campers get a crap deal from C&CC IMHO.
My advice Chuck a tarp over the two tents, that makes it one "unit".
