I agree with the sleeping thing. Our first tent had 2 very separate pods but I felt a lot happier with our second with one big pod which could be separated with a zip sheet. I can see if they're sleeping or feel if they're too hot etc. I would also make sure they have something to do early in the morning especially if they're early risers so they don't wake everyone up. It depends on ages, colouring, doodle book, reading book. We always carry valuables with us or lock them in the car. I must say I too have always felt very safe. Your neighbours tend to know who belongs to which pitch.
